Vortrog wrote:QUOTE (Vortrog @ May 12 2014, 06:24 PM) Having spent countless hours test and logging issues for WGL mod (Operation Flashpoint), then VBS1, and then ACE for nothing other than the satisfaction of making either the military or the next players game more enjoyable, TROLOLOLOLOLMFAO at testers having to shell out money just to get access to the game and do the @#(! work as well.
They must all log off at the end of the day and pay a fortune for some of the most punishing Bondage (short of death) at the cruddiest brothel in town to hopefully get aids and die of a cold.
I cant think of any other explanation.
Won't be very many Elite: Dangerous testers then. All that having aids and dying probably thins them out.

100 UK pounds? Are they issuing shares so you can cash in later? What happened to the time when you bought a finished game, or get a free copy if you spend time testing it?

Nobody needs to kick in to Premium or standard beta, or pre buy the expansions. That is just for people who are crazy for early access or who want to support the game. Just getting the game for gamma release costs less than a triple-A title. https://store.zaonce.net/elite-dangerous-cat.html

Like I said, the Alpha and Beta costs were set in the kickstarter, so Frontier are somewhat locked into them. They have no need to more testers anyway, so it is working out just fine for them.

Btw. Incase I didn't make it clear, this is not Warthunder. The game is awesome for joystick pilots. I'm flying with a full CH HOTAS and loving it. There are people flying with a mouse, and like Allegiance it works just fine as well. There's a little more to learn for mousers as the basic controls are roll & pitch, with yaw relatively weak. Still, the virtual joystick for mouse users seems to work out just fine for those who put in the time to learn it.

Alpha 4.0 is out. This is some next generation stuff :o the seamless transitions with supercruise and hyperspace jumps are amazing.

Adept wrote:QUOTE (Adept @ May 10 2014, 02:31 PM) So... I have about 90 minutes of flight time now. The game is absolutely stunning. It feels exactly like it should considering:

1984 - Elite - starts the while 1st person space game genre
<15> years
1999 - Allegiance - nuff said
<15> years
2014 - Elite: Dangerous alpha release

It feels like a quantum leap. The feeling of flight is amazing, the graphics are gnarly and cutting edge and the audio design of the soundscape is just lovely.

And what's best of all, it's not dumbed down, nor is it a chase-the-cursor M & KB piece of crap like Warthunder, or WoWP. I'm flying with a full CH HOTAS (Fighterstick, Throttle and Pedals) and I'm absolutely loving it.

Some people _are_ playing with M & KB, and doing well, but they aren't having a massive advantage.... more a case that you can learn to play it well with a mouse as well.

Here's a gameplay link to those who haven't been following this. I must say watching it being played doesn't do it justice at all.

Is a gtx 760 enough to run the alpha?

It's early alpha yet. I wouldn't have afforded it / justified it in any way but friends and loved ones chipped in :iluv: The price will come down to sane levels before long (like regular beta some time during summer)

The Cobra engine is amazing. Native 64 bit, physics based rendering, the works... and the game is running just fine with my 1 gig 560 Ti. Now granted my screen is just 1600 x 1200, but if you're using something like a regular full HD monitor and have a quad core processor runnign at 3GHz or more, I think it will run everything perfectly.

Mine's an OC Q6600 running at 3.2 GHz with 8 Gigs of 800 MHz DDR2 very mediocre to say the least, and it seems to be enough.

Here's some footage from Alpha 4.0. I love the bit where a federal po-po pulls the player out of warp for a bit of stop & frisk
