Why would you fire a missile at yourself? /blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":o" border="0" alt="blink.gif" />

If you use the Z key, as soon as something is eyed by you, it will automatically target it.

You're missing the point. /mrgreen.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="mrgreen.gif" />

Gappy wants to target NOTHING so that a DF travels in a straight line instead of tracking anything.

This would also be useful for bombers to get some extra range out of their ABs by shooting at sections of the bases that stick out a little further than others. Target center doesn't work because you're inevitably going to be targeting *something*, and the missile is still going to turn.

Er, I was going to say something like that but Terralthra put it better. /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />

Yes, and bahdoday's tip about targetting nothing when AB-duelling an enemy bomber currently does not work. ABs may have terrible CM resistance, but you can't target nothing with hostile ships in the sector.

mcwarren4 wrote:QUOTE (mcwarren4 @ Dec 17 2006, 04:26 AM) I thought that missles will only do damage to a targeted ship. If you target nothing and your dumbfire hits a ship it does no damage? I'm probably wrong, but I thought I remembered reading that somewhere. But I do see your point Gapomatic. I think if we could do what you are suggesting it would be nice.
Nope, a missile damages whoever it hits, Friendly Fire allowing. If you can position your scout in front of the bomber, you can eat an AB and save the base the damage.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that. I usually just grab one of my teammates and throw them in front of the AB missle though /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

For certain bases, the only way to damage them is to fire ABs at a target on the other side... missles detonate (or previously detonated, I admit I'm not up to date with any changes that might have happened in the last revision or two) upon reaching the "center" of the object targetted, even if they failed to impact on anything. Anyone who has watched certain IC bases eat entire racks of ABs without taking any damage knows what I mean.

Perhaps create a new button to map which targets a null-object, preventing target acquisition. Alternately, anyone test firing missles at yourself? Assuming it does happen and the missle locks on to you and attempts to turn around, we could code it out so it no longer happens, making it an option. Because... why would you want to be able to fire missles at yourself? And if somone suggests Nanite Missles, I will kill them. /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />

Nanite missiles! Brilliant!

Maybe instead of repairing hull, they just repair shields instead.

And just to round it out, give 'em PT-rocket style aiming, 'cause the one thing this game needs is more rockets.

Missiles targeted at your self will track you. I've needed to pick up "one more tech" before and unloaded a full rack of seekers at my self before, Luckely they were spoofed by my CM /ninja.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":ninja:" border="0" alt="ninja.gif" />

Heh, just don't try it with hunter killers /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

The other day I had tons of trouble killins a tele due to AB missles targeting the wrong part of the base. I had to shift the nose of the bomber so that the missle would curve a bit into the tele. Some way to fire at nothing in particular sure would be a nice 'feature'.
