indeed.
as for camps:
i am madpeople, i am on my side
my interests are keeping alleg around.
i am neutral until i know all the facts, or enough to form a decision
QUOTE The wake of today's events will bring change to this community. Change for the better? Change for the worse?
I'm a Tiger, not a prophet.
i predict alleg survives.
(i was really worried when pook pulled asgs and th boards colour scheme)
Rebootedrock wrote:QUOTE (Rebootedrock @ Oct 13 2006, 10:48 PM) Part of the problem as I see it is that the @Allegs are permanent? positions.
I say we have an election to elect and resign one alleg member per year or whatever time period.
This election would be held on the inside and outside of the senate, the outside would vote who to kick, the inside would vote who to add.
This way the reasonable people get to choose who gains power and the general population would be able to choose one they didn't like or whatever, because if we let plyers vote people in, it will become a game of favorites.
this is an interesting idea, it would keep the senate active atleast.
i would make it every month the elections happen (or maybe 2 depends how hard it is to organise voteing)
would need people to volonteer for election to @alleg i think to keep the list of options short
Ozricosis wrote:QUOTE (Ozricosis @ Oct 13 2006, 11:02 PM) I think the word "asshat" is overused and should be buried here and now.
does this mean XT will drop its image of "we are asshats" and try to take on a "we are nice people" image?
really, what i think;
this afternoon alot of things happend very fast, emotions were high. people were posting 6 posts in the time it took me to write one.
i think everyone needs to take a day off.
leave the forums for 1 day, or atleast leave this topic alone for one day. calm down, let your feelings settle down, clarify them. continue discussion after the one day period.
i'm not even sure what the issue here is any more, all i got is
admins decide to make community nicer
some players decide they dont like a sudden surge of thread locks and bans
they then attack the admins personally
this allmost forces pook to leave
ok, this is simplified, there is a 7 page thread on those 4 lines.
i dont know, i cant post any more comments on this, i am too tired and dont know enough facts. i will probabbly look at this on sunday

really?
i thought it was something XT tried to enforce publicly.
if it wasn't XT who made that image, who did, and why did it stick to XT.
at some points in time the two could be used interchangeably.
does this mean were getting a public "we are XT we are not asshats, we discourage / do not encourage people to be asshats, and want to make the community nicer"
edit, no i am not XT bashing or attacking XT, i (and i think you have too) heard the storys about XT, i am asking for the truth, i am not saying i believe xt is a gorup of xyz

Ok it is time for me to pipe up....
Alright guys, this crap is enough!
We need to have an adult discussion about the proper administration of this board. Not from a standpoint of deal with it or get lost, but a real, honest communication here.
Why is Pook wanting to keep things calm for the newbies coming to the board? Simply put, he does not want the free for all that we all see on the XBOX live community that is teaching our children to be intolerant, racist, and confrontational. I personally dislike my middle son even touching XBOX live for that reason alone. But my oldest is actually my step son, and I have little to no control over him. That makes it just crawl up my ass when I heard some of the crap coming out of his mouth. So as a parent, I understand where he is coming from.
Why is pook not wanting drug use to be openly and freely discussed? I do not know about you guys, but my son had better not even think about drugs. I have seen lives go to hell, and people die from it. As a parent I also see that point. Tocacco? well, that is also bad. I smoke, but that does not make it right for the rest of the world who is going smoke free. Saying I am gonna take 5 to cop a smoke, is just that--- My choice. but we do have children here, and if we are going to be a respected community on the internet, we really should think of that.
I believe that we need to look at the whole situation from the point of view from the "Other guy". It would resolve a lot of conflicts. Considering how much Pook has done for the Allegiance community, I would really think about cutting him a little slack. Not to mention that his avatar is one really hot babe.
Now why is Noir wanting to have a little control over his servers? Simply put, the servers that he provides are pretty damn good, and he would like to have them set up int he wayt hat he wants to have them, without restriction from someone else. Everyone wants to live in peace, without having someone dictate their lives to them. This is in every area of life. From free speech, to whatever. I can see his point as well.
Noir has provided a great server for some time and it have managed to overcome many obsticles to operate as smoothly as it has for that time. Considering that, I can understand his point, and I would consider giving him a little slack as well.
HOWEVER!
This flame crap, though the Lobster thing is funny as hell, has got to stop. If we want to get anything done, we have to talk about it. Openly, and honestly without any intent on intimidation period.
Everyone has opinions, and each of them are valid in their own way. Take a lesson in effective listening guys, and try to understand the point of view being presented

XT, to my knowledge never has been for the asshat image as a whole. There are members who pursue it, and as long as it doesn't do any serious harm everyone else in the squad doesn't care. We don't constrain our members over minor things like other squads do, and that's probebly what gives off the image.

Question: is there a point in PMing Night, or should I send an e-mail instead?

I'd opt for both, never know with junkmail folders.

MadP, I asked for this to stay adult. I would ask that either edit your above post to reflect the idea that your not stirring the pot anymore, or not post in this topic if you can not be adult. Shiz, I would prefer if we not makes this a "this squad does this, that does that" type of thread. Thank you both for being mature and adult like and complying.
The issue here isn't wether we stop beating up on each other everyone in awhile, it's how were going to put this commmunity back together. Brothers will beat up on brothers at times, but when someone fom outside the family comes in and beats on a brother, the family unites and kicks some ass. Are we all willing to stop beating up on each other? I doubt it. But can we atleast stop the divison right now? Yes.
All I'm asking is for everyone to tihnk a little bit about their part. Everyone. It is everyone's fault that we are in this position at this point in time. How about everyone tries to fix it, and by fix it I don't mean point fingers, I mean actually do something constructive.

...and since I've already opened this thread, I went back and read guitarism's original long-ass post. I have one comment:
This community is now divided. There are two camps now as I see it. The problem is that neither side can truly exist without the other, regardless of what both sides think. There is no way we can get by without administration, and there is no way we can get by without players.
I think your perception is a bit skewed. This isn't administration (whole) vs players, this is mostly administration + players vs 5 people (for support of this theory, see the general air of postings in the last 24 hours, sorted by authors).
In that light, one of these sides is damn well able to exist without the other.

From the outpouring of sentiment, you know as well as I that it's more then just 5 players, who, are all banned fom the forums now. There are many that agree if not in entirety, but in partiality with those 5 that spoke up. Of those 5 that were banned, Grey and Psych I respect highly for the level headedness and honor, Night because he is an awesome player, and Psych and Masta beacuse I do know them. Wether or not you agree with my conclusions is something else.
Right now we are divided. I see two camps. There are alot of people who are not in those camps though, making up their minds and such. They are the grey middle, the undecided.
Right now I go to watch Rocky Horror Picture Show. The rest of you need to decide where you stand. At this moment, I call for all players to reflect on what has happened, and to read the threads. Make up your own mind and keep it open. Do not rely on others, and do not flame, but act like adults.
I also ask the admins not to delete pieces of this thread, regardless of what is said. If people who post here do not act as adults, they will be trated as children by myself and those that are adults. Thank you.
