Let's say that the Little League kids and AA players were not, like they would be in reality, just happy to be on a team with some Yankees. Let's say that they wanted to play in this weird little pool for seasons and seasons.Lindy_Hop wrote:QUOTE (Lindy_Hop @ Mar 28 2007, 10:24 AM) Honestly it might tighten the games up but it won't stop stacking because not all tagged players are equal. To expand on your baseball metaphor, imagine that you had to form two teams out of a pool that includes the Yankees, a AA team, and a Little League Kids team. Removing the little leaguers from the pool still leaves you with t e Yankees and the AA team. Unless they balance out, a disproportianately sized AA team is still going to get clobbered by a mostly Yankee team... just not to the degree that a disproportianately sized AA and Little League team would get clobbered by a mostly Yankee team.
a) The Little Leaguers, and most of the AA players, would probably not be making much of a difference in the game. It would be like, "oh, Little Johnny's up to bat again." throw throw throw done. Sorry Johnny. If you're a left fielder, and you need to throw a ball into, say, third base, but Johnny's there, you can either throw it really lightly and hope that Johnny can get it, or you can $#@!ing wail it to home, because you know you've got a fellow Yankee over there. So you ignore Johnny. Again.
b) The Yankees show up, every game, but they quickly learn to size up their opposing team (in this weird mixed pool) by looking at the Yankees on that team. Everyone else is pretty much irrelevant to the outcome, as above.
c) Little Leaguers and AA players start feeling pretty useless. Maybe they quit, maybe they don't, but it doesn't really matter. A few of the AA guys get good enough to basically be considered as good as the Yankees in the pool, but there's no line, no real recognition, you don't really have much incentive, and it's sort of fun, I mean, baseball's great, but eh.
d) Parents will still pay to put kids into Little League, especially if they get to play with the Yankees. There will be an influx of new players. But since the Little Leaguers get so completely ignored, they don't learn anything apart from what you can learn by watching. They probably could have done just as well staying home, watching the game, and then going out and playing with their friends.
Separate leagues make sense.
Of course, with the current ranking system, there are only 52 veterans and 4 experts, which isn't really enough. I think we'd need at least a minimum of 150 players per bracket to make locked servers work.
Psych, this probably seems like it goes against several other things I believe and other stands I've taken, but if you start that game, I will be there. I probably wouldnt want to do it all the time, but it would be a damn nice change of pace some evenings. The newbies don't actually bother me, but the hiders, the chatters and losing every game in an attempt to help balance things are driving me nuts.
Lets get a game going one night soon and see how it goes.
