Newbie servers are intended for new players to familiarise themselves with the game controls, ships, and techpaths. Since everyone playing on Newbie Servers is new there is very little strategy or skills present and it is highly recommended that players start playing on the Main Servers as soon as possible to learn what the game is 'truly' like. Any 'strategies' you do learn on Newbie servers have probably been developed by other newbs who know very little more than you.

Another downside of Newbie Server games is the fact that most (above 90%) Newbie [[Game Controller]]s choose extremely high money settings so they can 'play with all the toys'. These settings are used very rarely in normal games because players wish to play the game seriously - expanding, running, and defending your economy while disrupting the enemies is a major part of an Allegiance game. Using high money settings knocks this aspect out the window, and teams can get every single technology path instead of working together & making the most out of the single techpath they can afford. About the only time silly money settings are used is when the players agree beforehand to play a Deathmatch with 'all the toys'.

Newbie servers are servers where any player with a rank higher than 7 is automatically banned when they play on them. This ban lasts for 24 hours and comes into effect next time the person logs on using ASGS. Since it isn't instantaneous, sometimes a veteran player will play on the newbie server.

There is normally a Newbie Server up for each Core, and they can be recognised in the games list by the word 'Newbie' in their name, like such (insert screenshot of Lobby with Newbie Server highlighted).

Any normal server can also be set to 'Novices only' in the Games Settings by the Game Controller. This will only allow players with a rank less than (?) join the server. Note that this is a completely different way of doing it than that explained in the first paragraph.

If you have any problems, such as the Game Controller being AFK, you can join the Main Server and ask for an @Alleg to solve it for you.

NOTE: With the release of R4 any server with the word "newbie" contained in the game name is monitored by the ASGS system. Do not create a game with "newbie" in the game name or you will be subjected to the autoban if over a rank 7.
