This solution covers the following error messages:

  • Unable to validate Allegiance installation
    or
  • File Allegiance.exe has an invalid signature

On March 1st, 2006, the community released its first self-made update to the Allegiance code since Microsoft last-updated the game. Anyone who installed the game prior to 2005 has their Allegiance folder set up with ASGS in a subfolder:

Old Installations (pre-2005):
  • C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Allegiance\Allegiance.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Allegiance\ASGS\ASGSClient.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Allegiance\ASGS\ASGSUpdate.exe

Since early 2005, all new installations placed ASGSClient.exe in the same folder as Allegiance.exe:

New Installations (2005-present)
  • C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Allegiance\Allegiance.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Allegiance\ASGSClient.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Allegiance\ASGSUpdate.exe

The Autoupdate deployed on March 1st expects users to be using "new" installations of Allegiance, and assumes your ASGSClient.exe is in the same folder as your Allegiance.exe.

To solve this error, move all files located in the \ASGS subdirectory up into the \Allegiance directory. Overwrite any files if prompted. You will need to update any shortcuts you have as necessary.
