So I found the game while wandering about the internet and decided to give it a try. Trouble is while downloading it I came across two errors. The first said it could not write a file, I forget the name. Something about beta. The second file it couldn't write was the launcher I believe. I told it to skip the files since no amount of hitting retry would get it to work. However I can't open the app which I guess is to be expected considering the launcher file was one of the two that wouldn't install. "Windows can not activate the specified path, device or file..." and so on.

Any idea how to fix this?

I tried uninstalling, redownloading and installing it and got the same problem.

Yeah I tried that.

Windows Version (and Service Packs): 10 Home,
Video Card (Make and Model#): Whatever came installed in the laptop. If you really need to know I guess i could figure it out but It doesn't seem like this would be the issue.
Sound Card (Make and Model#): ^
Connection Type (Dialup, Cable, DSL, other): Cable
Modem/Router (Make and Model#): Netgear router, not really sure. It was provided by the cable company and I cant access it as it is behind a locked door since the roomates dont trust each other.
Internet Service Provider(company name): Spectrum
Location(State/Province/Locality, and Country): Florida, USA
Installed Mods: None

Make and Version of firewall: Mcafee but its off
Make and version of anti-virus: Mcafee, its pretty much always off because it sucks

Problem Encountered at Step #: 1
Which Program (Community Security System/Allegiance):
What Error Message: Error Opening File for Writing: Allegiance1.2\Beta\allegiance.exe and Allegiance1.2\launcher.exe
Comments (What you tried, description, etc):
Uninstalling and re-installing, running as administrator, disabling firewall and antivirus. Ignoring the files that wont download which results in Windows can not open the specified device path or file. (Program Files\ Microsoft games \ Allegiance 1.2 \ Launcher.exe after it finishes installing and i try to run it. I tried to run the uninstaller but it said I didn't have permission / it couldn't access it even when I ran as admin so I had to go in and delete things manually.

I solved the installing problem after trying a few different things. I managed to get into the game and got to current games listings, but when I click on that I got failed to connect to lobby. Again I tried the usual things, running as admin, toggling firewall.

You firewall still blocking DirectPlay, even if it is disabled.

It's a known issue... The only solution is to deinstall and use Windows Firewall.

Ah yeah I saw that on the wiki and tried that. Ill try to allow directplay access manually. Totally uninstalled Mcafee and tried disabling windows firewall. Still doesn't seem to be working.

It is unlikely firewall related. For Windows 10 (or 8) you unfortunately have to manually enable DirectPlay in Windows. In the search box type "windows features" and click "Turn Windows features on and off" under best match. When that opens expand Legacy Components and you will find DirectPlay there. Check the box next to it and click Ok to enable.
