Yup, has to be an opened but not closed comment tag. Look up for the <!-- that has no partner.

I have spend about a hour to find the specific comment within php/MySQL, without success...

Just spend another hour...
The content within the database was fine, but within the cache it wasn't (IPB save lots of stuff within cache php files).
Saving the template within database (updating the cache) did the trick.
