Allegiance crashes at Step 6!

I can open up Allegiance with no problem, but as soon as I click "Free Games" it crashes to the desktop with the classic send error report message, "The Microsoft Allegiance Game has encountered a problem and needs to close...etc." I am running a virtual version of XP from my macbook pro, and I've had no problems with tutorial missions. I have up to 8 gigs of ram, but set my virtual PC to use up only 1GB, but I don't really think that could have anything to do with it?

RAM's not the issue, Allegiance barely uses any by today's standards. I'm guessing it has something to do with running it on a VM. This is what the wiki has to say on that:

pkk is our admin, he'll need to visit this thread to enable your account (assuming that's a thing, it used to be that VMs didn't work at all). To help him out, post your account username/callsign. He could be a while though, last I heard his internet was playing up...

Thanks for replying! I actually had the problem of having my account enabled for virtual machine, and pkk actually hooked it up and enabled that for me!

My issue isn't logging anymore, now it's when the game is already open and I click "FREE GAMES," it crashes to the desktop :( Any ideas?

Okay, that makes sense. It's probably not accessing the config file properly.

Can you have a look at your registry keys? Click start, run. Type 'regedit', navigate to

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft Games\Allegiance\1.2

Then look for an entry for ProductionCfgFile. The value should be 'http://allsrvbox.alleg.net/allegiance.txt'

If it's not, create the key and set it to that.

If the key is ok, then... One thing you can try is download that file onto your hard drive and change the key to to path of the file where it's downloaded to.

Considering it is crashing when you click Free Games, it is likely network related.

Not experienced with Parallels, but I use VMware player to run some Linux VMs on Windows. I usually have to change the network adapter settings to connect to some game servers. Might try changing the Network Adapter setting for the VM in Parallels to Bridged Ethernet instead of Shared Networking which I believe is the default.

Turkey, I tried downloading and changing the path of the key, and unfortunately it didn't fix the crashing. Thanks for trying! Let me know if you think of anything else.

AEM, on my Parallel's, "Shared Network" is the default and it has been selected until now, and I see on drop-down menu, below the Shared Network option are the Bridged Network options: Default Adapter, Ethernet, Airport, vnic0, vnic1, & Host-only Network.

It still crashed every time when I tried using Default Adapter, Airport, & vnic0 options and it still crashed. As soon as I switched to the "Ethernet" option on parallels, the wifi connection cut off on the virtual PC. Do I need to be directly connected to my router via ethernet cable? I don't have direct access to the router in the room I'm in atm. Thanks for the help!

Surprised this would cause Allegiance to crash, but error must not be handled in the code. You can access allsrvbox.alleg.net/allegiance.txt in a web browser inside the VM right? I am assuming you did this when downloading the file, but if not try to do within the VM.

You could try a workaround of replacing allsrvbox.alleg.net with its IP 204.14.17.27. I suspect for this error you would need to do the replacement in the allegiance.txt file you downloaded and pointed the registry key to. If it still fails get the diagnoistic report again to see if there is a new exception listed.

So at the top of the file make it:

edit: Actually realize now it looks like the error may be coming from ACSS and not Allegiance. Not sure where the ACSS client is pulling allsrvbox.alleg.net from. I am assuming it is not hardcoded, so it would probably either be that file or in the registry.

Try eliminating the WiFi..plug it into the box and see what happens.

ACSS was unable to resolve the DNS name for allsrv.box.alleg.net...

Something is wrong with your VM, it seems like something is blocking or it doesn't even have access to the Internet... :thumbsup:
