Why won't a miner "always" fill its tank/cargo with He3 before going back to base? Why?
Why can't a miner head back to base automactically as soon as "enemy is spotted"? Why?
If your miner is in an unclaimed sector with no D it knows it is there as bait for something bigger BUTT if your miner is in one of your sectors with a dockable base why does it not go back when "enemy is spotted"?

Because the rock runs out, and if they stayed out filling up they'd be more vulnerable. Problem is they are a bit too conservative right now, and happy if only half the hold is full.
Next release, R8, will tweak this a bit making the miner try to fill up more if a rock is closer than the base.

Because it'd make it too easy to disrupt mining. What's needed is a calculation of "balance of power" in the sector to judge the threat. I think it's fairly straightforward to do, but won't be in R8.

Many reasons. A miner might have been ordered to take over ("Miner returning home with partial load") or it's spooked or damaged.

Because commanders would revolt and murder the dev team for the things Spunk said.

What?

I think I follow him on this and it's a good point. If a miner has no protection in the sector that it's mining, then it should head back to base as soon as an enemy enters the sector.
Xynth wrote:QUOTE (Xynth @ Mar 27 2013, 11:23 AM) I'll just sit in your sector with shield in cargo and wait. Every time your miner gets near the rock, shields up and lololol as he runs back to base.
Some way to change miner behavior would be nice, but I don't know how that would be implemented.
Sometimes its better for a miner to be really jumpy, other times it's better if the miner doesn't react at all.

+1
it would be sweet if you could set each miner as "cautious, normal, or agressive"

This. When I added the Stay Docked option to miners/cons there was a few players who said this about that but in the end the utility was agreed on. I think it sets up a clear decision. Want to mine under heavy pressure, well you need to focus and micro. Don't want to micro miners with heavy pressure, throw them in the garage. Your attention elsewhere, income, miner safety. Pick two and be happy.
