Maybe this has been tried before my time, but I think it would be a worthwhile endeavor. I think all experienced commanders should pick a player who doesn't have any or much Comm experience, and use the student as a co-commander. This should be done in every game possible. This would produce a bumper crop of commanders and make the game more interesting as these new commanders begin to take a lead role. Most novice players are a little intimidated and hesitant to take the comm chair. This would also lessen the load on the lead comm, as certain duties could be assigned to the student. I'd also strongly recommend headsets so the co-comms could converse rather than type.
These students could make better commanders because they'll have the opportunity to learn about many different tactics used by each comm they learn from. In a very short time, we could double the comm population, and maybe double the interest in Alleg.
