MonAG wrote:QUOTE (MonAG @ Aug 14 2012, 06:40 PM) Actually, we need to start checking websites where Alleg is referenced and get them to correct mistakes if we detect them.

For example: http://sourceforge.net/projects/freeallegiance/

They make a reference to http://www.allegiancezone.com as the alleg web site (which is down). Does anyone know how to correct it?

i'm allegdev, owner of that sf project. i'll change it as soon as i get my password reset

I only agree to that when that dot-com redirects to the dot-org in a funny way ... "Hey! But we are free!" -> ORG

You know, Metz - dot-org's usually stay for free offers, as dot-com stands for commercial ... as I thought.

@MonAG
Actually it is not very hard to change the title of a homepage ... the container is called <title>Bla bla</title>, but ...
... let us say you run a software on your webspace, then it could be you have to look either into the controls of that software to change the title or you look into the templates to change it manually. As our starting page does not belong to any software ( I hope ) it is a time of maximum 10 minutes to put in the correct title.

Then it is just a matter of creating a more descriptive title, one which includes relevant keywords for searches. Something such as "FreeAllegiance - Best space combat game you never played!".

Just checked the changes in the FB site: http://www.facebook.com/freeallegiance

Already looking much more healthy! :D

Maybe a small description of the game should be included in the front FB profile. Just one paragraph, mentioning the free, multiplayer, space combat concepts. I always assume people are too lazy too follow the links posted ;)

.com is always better and easier to remember

allegiancegame.com is available

we should use that domain instead

and redirect this domain to that domain

and start advertising allegiancegame.com

If it were freeallegiance.com it would be an easier decision.

But after years of branding the game as FreeAllegiance (which could be considered a smart move of differentiation from other Allegiance companies), changing it back to Allegiance shouldn´t be taken lightly. Specially if you consider that Allegiance.com (and others) represent companies which will always beat us in advertizing budget. We will always stand a better chance in searches if the game is commonly known as FreeAllegiance, than as Allegiance. If you don´t believe me, try searching "allegiance" vs "free allegiance".

Then of course, if the long term planning is to become a paid subscription game, then losing the "free" now is as good as any other time...

And as somebody noted before, .org in non-profit organizations is quite tolerable.

If you search "allegiance game", the top 4 results are regarding Allegiance.
We should register allegiancegame.com
and forward freeallegiance.org to allegiancegame.com
then all old traffic based on freeallegiance.org will still end up at allegiancegame.com
and all new advertisement will have something a little more professional and easy to remember to work with

allegiancegame.com

do it now

All you need to do is stick Alleg banners on porn sites.

You'll hear sector overload within 2 days.

I like the new domain idea, I still remember how freeallegiance.org seemed weird and suspicious for me

Something has been bugging me for months... Of the thousands of words available, why must the word "pedophile" appear on the front page of the forum?
