Needed: Actors to play the part of a busy and harassed balance designer.

Requirements: Be able to use ICE. Don't be a douche. 1-2 years experience playing allegiance preferred.

Basically be willing to show your face around the forums and game. Be willing to do drudge work on the cores and have a care for the feelings or senior dev members (Brood is ever so vulnerable). Older members of the community are extremely welcome to apply, but younger members are up for consideration as well.

I reserve the right to reject applicants for any reason and MrC is already rejected.

If I wasn't so out of practice I would do it solely for the hate.

Balance Designers? You mean engineers? Or do you need mechanics to do the mechanical stuff?

I could give it a shot, I am quite familiar with ICE. I could probably do this until I start my Polytechnic 3 - 4 year Diploma in Video Game Design (!= programming, but designing) this April :psyched:

Just tell me what is ECM in Alleg (not CM) and what the missile properties 'Blast Radius', 'Blast Power' and 'Salvo Ratio' are and I'll be good to go.

ECM is a multiplier for missile lock time. So if your Hunter 3 SF is pointed perfectly at an enemy it'll take 1 second to lock on to a scout, 1.25 seconds to lock on to an SF, and 0.4 seconds to lock on to a cruiser.

Blast radius is the range from an aleph res or exploded missile at which a ship will take 0 damage. Damage is maximum at the center and decreases linearly out to the blast radius. For aleph res, the blast damage is defined in 'damage', which is normally for direct hits. For any other missile, the blast damage is defined by 'blast power'. However, ever missile in every core I'm aware of has a blast power of 0 because missiles only explode when they make a direct hit or their lifetime ticks down to 0. You could use blast power and radius to make missiles that could damage several ships flying in a tight group, but without proximity fusing or remote activation they're just not much fun.

Salvo ratio is like gun dispersion, but one-dimensional.

Not sure what to actually call it, so balance designer works. You need to be able to use and understand ICE as a base. In theory you should also be able to comment on balance in a well thought out manner instead of just spamming the dev forum with "HEY GUYS HOW ABOUT ALEPH RES IS ONLY 1 SIDED AND EXPLODES ONLY HE ROCKS HUH THAT WOULD BE GREAT I MADE IT AND PUT IT INTO THE TEST CORE BUT I MESSED UP THE PRE/DEF AND NOW WHEN YOU RESEARCH CLOAK 1 AS GIGA YOU GET ACCESS TO RIX BATTLESHIPS BUT I DON'T THINK THAT WILL HAPPEN VERY OFTEN BECAUSE TAC IS WAY WORSE THAN EXP LIKE IT SHOULD BE LOLOLOLOL"

I feel that the commenting on balance part can be taught correctly later, but if you can't be arsed to even learn how ICE works there is little hope that you'll learn anything else. Of course I need active devs that are in touch with actually playing the game as well as posting about it, and I need people who aren't going to get huffy when their idea is shot down by Brood or Spunky for having been tried already or something of the sort.
