This is the discussion topic for the wiki article: AllegSkill Interim

Aunt Edit:

Errr ... wth ... I somehow created this topic by hitting a link on the wiki.

Whatever, while I am here, I might as well:

There should be a rating for probing on the leaderboard. Whore-stats for those that enable the whores to whore so to say ...

Is the leaderboard even about Alleg-skill? Erm ... gotta go ...

It's hard to judge effective probing. Amount of probs is a pointless stat since I could just spam probes for 5 mins right outside my own greendoor

Other than that I agree with dorj. heh :)

I didn't mean to say that probing should contribute to your leaderboard-ranking,
just that there should be a "whore-stat" for probing as well.

If effective probing is "hard to judge", so is effective podding:
You might just grab an int over the course of the whole game and randomly kill
players in situations that are just not critical, spend time chasing after scouts
just to get that next kill etc. E.g. your team is on a bombrun and needs you
in a nan-scout or on a turret but where are you? -> Popping newbies that fly
around in circles somewhere.

Yes, yes, any kill generally appears to be more useful for your team than a
stack of random probes. But like Roy Brown stated: Bull@#(!-probing isn't exactly
something you can just do without getting a comment or a boot. Also, you need
to be in the scout and actually DO this stuff first. So if somebody really loves his
probing-stat so much, let him go ahead and waste hours of his life doing this.
Perhaps he is smart enough to consider just doing it in a useful way when he is
already "probing" anyways ... a stat-lover as he is, he should get the idea that
useful probing will raise the chances of his team winning, which will again affect
more valued stats than the probing-stat. ;)

pts for probes dropped by you eyeing stuff might be useful though. like a certain amount for bbrs, miners, htts, cons. and less for scouts/figs/ints.

Pulseprobes are 'probes' too, as are tp1/2, plasgens, all rix drones (and the towers you can plant with freighters :D ) .

So not only a codechange is required, but also a core format change so those non-EWS-probes listed above do not count as probes anymore.
Unlikely to happen.

I've always wondered why people maintain that chasing scouts is pointless easy kills. Whilst also saying that scouting is the most important role. Killing newbie scouts can win games :P

dont really see those as a big deal... how often are you gonna see people drop tp1/2 all over the place in order to get more pts... and it's gonna be a one time deal anyway (once per shot)

plasgens - really low scan range yea? not a problem or you can reduce it in the core to have their scan range reduced, same w/ the rest

Can't reduce scan range too much or otherwise they won't shoot at things, IIRC probes which shoot stuff can only shoot stuff that they see with their own scan range not the team scan range.

Also fwiffo this isn't about points, Goodwill want probes on the leaderboard or maybe just on end game stats to see who has done more probing as you can see who has done more killing (and ejecting).

Exactly. Probes on the leaderboard would be awesome.

"Probing wins games" is written all over the place ain't it?
So why only squirt goo when you shot somebody down?
