Hello, I'm brand spankin' new to Allegiance. I've been playing Space Sims for a while now, and up until now the Mouse & Keyboard have kept me satisfied.

I have a Logitech Dual Action controller that I mostly use for fighting games and emulators, I've tried it out in Allegiance and for the most part it works. However, I've only tested it in simple combat training, and I'm looking for some advice from experienced players on whether or not this controller is worth it.

If so, is there anything I should do to the control settings to maximize effectiveness?

If not, are there any cheap controller/joysticks that would better suit this game (and preferably other sims)?

I ask because I really have no experience with this game, and if I try setting it up myself I know I'll make some rookie mistake that will end with my ship getting blown out of the galaxy.

Thanks a bunch in advance,
Shodex

I've always played this game with keyboard/joystick combo. I tried one of those controllers with Allegiance once and it drove me nuts! Grant you I only play this game and I don't use controllers for anything, so you can take that at face value. I use a Logitech extreme 3d pro and I like it's functions with this game.

Well it's driving me nuts too. :P The sticks make flight near impossible, it might be just the controller since it's weird when I tried to play Call of Duty 4 as well. I regret buying it, it's a nice controller, but I would have been better off getting a wired Xbox 360 controller.

I did a little joystick hunting and the Saitek Cyborg Evo caught my eye. It's cheap, which is good since I'm only in High School and money isn't exactly growing on trees, but it's getting good reviews. Is anyone here using (or has used) the Cyborg Evo?

I had a cyborg before the Logitech....there was a marked improvement over the cyborg.

The general consensus is that the Logitec 3D Pro is the preferred stick for this game. Several players use it. There are other sticks, of course, but that seems to be the preferred unit. (I really don't have any experience with others personally, I can only go by what others have said in past discussions.)

Game controllers aren't very useful in this game - not enough keys - you still need to use the keyboard and a game controller pretty much requires both hands on the unit.

Some people have had success with some Saitek sticks, but there is a problem with some units/drivers with Allegiance. That's supposedly fixed in the next release, but we don't know when that release will be available.

And welcome to Allegiance! :D

Actually, it's worth paying a few extra credits and getting the force feedback version for the ability to fine tune the centering force.

Alright, I think I'll get a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro unless anyone wants to argue against it. Thanks for the help guys I appreciate it.

Extreme 3d is nice.

The force Feedback version (logitech Force 3D Pro) can be a little more precise, and I've found it worth paying a little extra.

Until you get that you can happily fly in Alleg. with a mouse (and some people prefer that...) numpad 0 switches to mouse control if you aren;t aware....
