Disabling it won't do it. You need to uninstall it, reboot, then re-install without the firewall component. (Try Allegiance first before the re-install (and after the reboot) to make sure that was the culprit.

Also note that we've had reports that AVG 2011 is crap. Roll back to an earlier version if you can, or choose an alternative. You've got a router, so you don't need a firewall component at all.

So far, no luck. I uninstalled AVG Free 2011 (version 10), rebooted, and installed AVG 9. (The last time I played I was running AVG 9.)

I don't have a lot of time to play any more. But I am working on it.

Best way to determine a problem is to uninstall AVG, reboot, then check if Allegiance works. If it does then Huzzah it was AVG, if not then it might be something else.

I am a bit concerned about AVG 2011 because it has been markedly different from previous products, so much so that a simple uninstall may not solve the problem. There is a new AVG 2011 removal tool which you might need to download and use to completely eliminate traces of AVG, then after you have removed and rebooted if you try Allegiance and it still fails we can look past the Antivirus causing the problem.

Also Microsoft Security Essentials has been getting lots of praise if you want to try that instead.

One other question -- somewhere I remember reading about adding port ranges to my router for allegiance, do you know what that would be?

And would that even solve this particular problem?

We no longer have to forward ports. However, is those old rules still exist, it might be causing issues. So it's worth a check and remove any rules you may have with regards to Allegiance or "MS Gaming Zone".

I have removed AVG completely, running uninstall and an AVG removal program that is supposed to get the things uninstall leaves behind. Then rebooted, ran ccleaner and rebooted again. I also turned off Windows firewall.

Although ASGS and Allegiance both loaded amazingly fast, I still can't enter the lobby.

Hmmm, now what?

Did you ever have Norton AV on that machine? Norton has a removal tool, too.
