It's time for a final test...

Before the current installer can be replaced, I want to make sure that it doesn't contain some major bugs. ;) If you got some time, please run a test of this installer, specially on blank systems.

List of changes:
Setup requires Windows XP SP2 or betterSetup requires administrator rightsUpdates DirectX files, if outdated (webinstaller)Downloads .net framework 2.0, if not installedDoesn't required Visual C++ 2008 runtimeAdds exceptions to Windows Firewall (this doesn't fix issues with 3rd party firewalls like Norton), but only if it's activeAllow to run Allegiance without administrator rightsFixing ACL of NTFS directoryFixing ACL of registry settingsVista/Win7: Adding ASGSClient/ASGSUpdate to application compatibility list (no more warning of running unknown 3rd party application)Startmenu contains links tocommunity homelearning guidetech supportcreate a new account (ASGS)Readme is a link to WikiSetup will ask the user to create a new ASGS account at the end of setupIncluding latest AU files (CC_10)Basic BETA setup (which doesn't overwrite R5 exe)

Download link:
Allegiance Setup RC3.exe (90.6 MB)

If you have used the installer, please post some feedback, even if you had no problems. Please include the OS (Service Pack) and system language.

Know bugs:
Windows XP: Requires Windows Installer 3.1 (this will not get fixed)

Edit:

I tried it today on an XP Pro with SP2. No issues. This was not a "virgin" system, since I've used it for testing previously. I'll try my Win7 64-bit tomorrow if I get a moment.

Hello PKK, I am back (kind of) and look forward to the work you've done to the installer.

Thanks,

P.S. Add me back into Dev forum so we can leave notes there - I still have your gmx email does that work as well?

On Win7 Home I'm getting the dreaded "connectivity failure" in ASGS. I think I've gone through all the usual suspects, but I'm still cutting my teeth on Win7. Kind of odd, since I tried this machine with an earlier build and everything at that time was ok. Not sure what else I can poke around in.

Glad to see you back, Imago.

So far I got four downloads of this RC in the last two weeks...

Not sure if it's because of the installer contains ASGS (evil code-hiding Xenocode).

Try to reinstall with installer of http://getsetup.alleg.net , not sure if AVG will delete that installation, too.

Is it worthwhile testing this on a machine that already has alleg installed properly? I'm willing to try it if it is, but I don't have access to any clean machines or VMs.

installed on a clean XP Pro SP3 machine. It never had Allegiance before.

It installed all of the missing programs with no issues.

Perfect clean install. Right into game with no issues.

Installed 'other beta' right over top again with no issues.

Will install it on a clean win7 machine after christmas (as my wife and kids are stopping me from getting near it until then)
