I know that GT, and all its fun gadgets, are beloved by many. Tactical has its fun boomsticks, Supremacy its nifty lasers, and its expansion is just pretty sexy expansion. It has the cool PT Bombers, the sextical Mustangs. Plus, everything is relatively cheap!
But when you break down the strengths/weaknesses of GT, it seems to not stand up very well to other factions. Its supremacy is lacking for a variety of reasons. Big hitboxes, no spread. Its Tactical is sufficient, but mediocre - Why not go dreg, IC, or giga? (Gauss guns, of course!) Its expansion is, well, expansion! You get exp. to use its.... armored HTT's! Plus good hull and minidis.
I think that importantly, most factions have their flavor. They have their advantages (Giga - Economic, Dreg - speed, IC - Robust, Rixian - Vicious) ... with GT, its their tech. Peenix went down this route, but it never was done well. If there are going to be technologically based factions, it should be an across the board bonus, not a faction change vested in a single research.
I think it would be awesome for people to bark in with their suggestions, but since posts are supposed to have substance, I will make mine:
Cut out the PT Bombers, Mustangs, Gauss Canons, Armored HTT's, Guardians, Mini-dis and things. Give all of their tech paths an edge to compete with other factions.
Make their starting ships a little sexier to make up for the large hitbox (Call it a Mustang, exact same thing they currently have (starting fighter), but add a mini-ac mount.)
-----------------------------------------
Faction Modifiers - Increase energy to 125%. Increase sensors to 115%.
Supremacy - All fighters are per standard, but basic and enh. figs get mini-ac. Adv fig gets standard AC.
Expansion - Interceptors can mount disruptor.
Tactical - Sniper changes to gauss canon. Gets 3 levels of Gauss canon, each balanced.
Palisades - Reduce price to 7.5k
Teleport - Heavy Base (Ungalv)
Outpost - Reduce price to 3.75k, make it light base.
---------------------------------------------
GT Suffers from Peenix Syndrome?

I don't want that time to be a @#(!-storm of hate and schadenfreude.
Having commed a few games the past couple of days as GT:
I think the PT bbr is a weird little $#@!er that causes tons of issues for Sup (as well as the special AB GT has)
With the new GT fig hitbox they don't seem to be doing all that bad (although slow as @#(! as always)
The biggest issue is the Research Station. A whole additional 10k and taking over a tech rock just so you can spend more on adv tech
I'd rather see the research removed entirely and simply replace some of GT's regular tech with the fancy version. Instead of gat3 get lasers, instead of dumb3 get zeus, instead of sniper 2 get gauss, instead of emp get minidis. That sort of thing
Figs getting any version of AC is overpowered (hvy scout turrets x 10, unless you were thinking aka Rix hvy scouts in which case WTF)

Get over yourselves, don't try to win arguments on the internet where the option of a punch in the mouth is unavailable
"It is not that I cannot create anything good, but that I will not." And to prove this, he created the peacock.
I kinda like GT as is. They're pretty a pretty balanced faction. You gotta pay a real high price for their retardedly luxurious end game and you have many paths to do it. Something's gotta be done about those lasers though, they do just as much dmg as gat2 but costs gat 3 extra. Make them gat 3 dmg when you replace them.
Just in general about some of those ideaz.
Having an opening ship (basic fig) with a mini ac + df + reg boosters = stupid overpowered.
Pure exp would = hvy int dis 1'ing How effective is that really against caps and lt bases vs. minidis? (idk, don't ints have @#(! for energy?)

AC would not be mounted as a gun, sillies. It would be a turret.
Its 2 pilots, 1 ship. Easy to blow up (killing two pilots), but you gain the power of the turret. Its a tradeoff that is only useful in certain circumstances.

I'd like to see an overhaul of the PT bbr actually.
Here's a neat fix on pt bbrs.
Give it no AB missiles. Instead give it a single AB tf cannon turret. Give it 1/2 the energy of said tf bbr. The pilot gets to use the unique pt combat role exclusively while the turret is still a pretty effing good weapon to attack people in from a range of 800 to dammage people as they come in close, and can destroy bases in reasonable amounts of time. (still would take longer for bigger bases, but their single reload shot ones take longer too, I think the TTK the base would not be that far off from one another..)

The biggest issue with GT is people trying to rush GT special tech instead of trying to play it as a normal faction.
GT is amazing as Exp without with or without use of AP HTTs. (Hull perk, ability to push pali cons into enemy tech base sectors at half price - vs a garrison).
and the issue with sup and tac...
everyone sucks at it. As GT or anything else.

There's a new sheriff in town.
I always felt that you spent ALL of this time and money for lasers... and then after 1 battle your energy is spent. Sure you get MG1 powered pew pews on your figs, but its sorta useless in a prolonged engagement.
A Mustang is in all ways inferior to a TF or Rix gunship, its only redeeming value is it doesn't cost anything to fly it... hell its inferior to any other factions GS as well. A mini-ac turret is totally inferior to twin skycaps.
Essentially, the only benefit to having a Mustang is that its free... and it only takes 80 mustangs dying to recoup that $20k extra you spent to get it... which seems very feasible. However it is not end-game tech, it is mid game tech at best.
The fun part of Phoenix was that its cheese was end-game tech... even though most people didn't use it as such. I would typically go full bore Phoenix Exp (their ints were quite awesome). Then when you got your Med Aslt 3 HTTs up it was time to shove them down your enemies throats.... what is the best way to do this? Use your ints to secure a fully functioning economy, invest in vanguards (with lasers), and shove those HTTs down their throats.
You cannot do that with GT, their mustangs will die quickly to heavy ints... and yes Vanguards struggled with ints too, but they weren't nearly as helpless... at least not back when you could get Mini-LC on them.
Phoenix was constantly derided as being overpowered, despite the fact that its win/loss ratio in any game with more than 10 players was terrible.

First and foremost, you don't fly a mustang like a gunship. You fly it like a hybrid fighter/interceptor.Camaro wrote:QUOTE (Camaro @ Dec 6 2010, 03:31 AM) A Mustang is in all ways inferior to a TF or Rix gunship, its only redeeming value is it doesn't cost anything to fly it... hell its inferior to any other factions GS as well. You utilize its mini-ac1 forward cannon in combination with its Hunter(or zeus) missiles to deal massive and accurate damage. With sup upgrades, you have increases to missile damage, higher ac levels for higher damage ac1, and higher missile tracking. You can also, due to the pre-reqs of stang, buy some pretty nifty support tech (higher med shields) without having to buy the base upgrades.
In the end, mustangs beat heavy ints. Gunships do not.
Mustangs > Hvy Ints > Gunships
