-INSTRUCTIONS FOR BETA WEDNESDAY:
If you do not already have it installed, you will need to install the Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable. You should also make sure you have the latest DirectX 9 Start with an up to date Allegiance install (make sure you can play on the regular servers).
In ASGS select "Allegiance -> Beta Mode".
Still in ASGS, select "Help -> Update / Repair Critical Files".
Click "Login". The updater will run again, downloading the beta client.
After the updater has finished, click "Login" again.
Enjoy the beta! Find or create a new game and test away!
When you are done, there are a couple steps to get back on the regular servers.
Turn off beta mode "Allegiance -> Beta Mode".
Revert to the regular client "Help -> Update / Repair Critical Files"
Play as normal!

CC_10 is available if you guys desire it, someone will just have to start a new game for it.

Please file all bug reports here.

Thank you all for testing.

note: The artwork error from last week is still present if you were getting it. I got rather busy early this week so didn't get around to fixing it in time for today. My apologies.

well, we got 5 people over to the beta server... at which point people desided that 12 afk people in mainland is better than 5 not so afk people.

Well, for a very long time now I've been seeing no one on this beta. Why? For me it's mainly timezone however I did also run into problems even getting onto beta when I had tried.

Maybe beta needs to be on a Saturday/Sunday when we know way more people log in however the main things is that we make it as easy as possible to log on in the first place.

I would very much like to have a weekend game on the beta server, but it should be done in a much cleaner fashion than the current and existing beta wednesdays that I've thrown up over the last 8 weeks.

I've spoken with TE and Rav in the past about making an "Event" of shutting down the production servers to divert traffic to the beta of R6 but if people are going to be "forced" to play on an R6 code release, it has to be done properly and politely which means co-ordination and co-operation. (all of which every single person involved EXCEPT me has been forthright about)

Currently the setup on Fazdev (the beta test server) is imperfect on a lot of levels.
While I have taken a few steps to minimize tiny portions of that, my main goal is and has always been to allow Allegiance to be played and developed by any- and every- one who wishes to participate.

R5 introduced some ugly graphics bugs.

ASGS is unmaintained and therefore sucks out loud in practice.

Cleaning up the detritus of R5 and the code that Imago left when he cursed, bailed, and subsequently exploited is a fairly large pile of work on top of my normal household life-with-wife.

I'm getting towards something we can all use, but it's a quote-unquote "BIG JOB" if I'm to greenlight anything that the community as a whole can trust.

In the coming days I will need a lot of help, but I cannot, unfortunately, use any until I branch the SVN. I wish I could give you all a date for when I would be done right now, but I don't have one.

This is a much bigger job than I thought it was when I dipped my waders into the swamp, but I'm determined to see it through to at least an R6 release that doesn't suck.
