I think it's due time for an alternate installer including the high res graphics, reasonable mods, and different keybindings.
I'd do it myself but I lack such power or skills.

This comes up occasionally (I must have suggested it a few times myself).
It is definitely something we need to do. I realise such a high-res installer will be a bigger package to download... but we need the game to look good so people like what they see. In a similar vein the default settings and keybindings are a problem. As the game installs now the bandwidth is set on the lowest possible, the default keybindings are atrociously bad, the Hud is not set on maximum info and the minimap (F7) and loadout screen (F4) are hidden.
The situation is bad and is costing us a lot of new players as it makes it harder to get into the game.

Modulus is awesome

Once Modulus is ready and Orion Confirms it's out of beta, we could probably publicise it through the forums and download page etc.

A separate high-res installer would still be better for the purposes of attracting new players. It would give immediate results, wouldn't require the newbie to install anything else or figure out how to use an entire other program (no matter how easy), and the newbie wouldn't have to wonder which mods are the right ones to install (though Modulus is supposed to have a "featured mod" section I guess).
So Modulus and a High-Res Installer should not be an either-or proposition. No matter how awesome Modulus ends up being, creating some sort of high-res installer that would function as an alternative to the current installer could still be worthwhile.
Though, again, like every other cool idea for Allegiance, it requires people who know computer things...

Hey I am currently not doing anything adn have plenty of free time. I don't know how to create installer but I will learn it if needed. So that being said should I give it a go or would be it be too hard.
I can somewhat guess what an installer does...correct me if I am wrong...
1) Packs (compress?) necessary files adn registry at its core.
2) When required exracts these file to its correct path file adn registry entries to its correct path adn modify the path according to the users custom path.
I can't think of anything else that it will do.
Ps I am not a pro computer user. I have very very (very x10) basic knoledge in coding.

but am always eager to learn it.

I've never created an installer either, but I hear there are tools and such around for doing it. Learning how to use the tools probably wouldn't be a huge leap, but if you do there's no guarantee that your result would be used.

I found some tools for creating an installer.
http://www.advancedinstaller.com/
http://www.sminstall.com/
http://www.createinstall.com/
And a
tutorial for creating installers via Visual Studio
I haven't tried any of these, but tell me what you think.

um, guys...
http://svn.alleg.net/svn/Allegiance/branch.../update/nsis.pl would probably be a good start -- yea, that's the source code for the R6 installer.
edit: Orion has access to the externals that go into that installer and can include modules whenever he wants.
