Hey everyone,
On June 26-27th, the G20 summit is being hosted in Toronto Ontario. The world's governments have chosen the Metro Toronto Convention Centre as their venue, which just so happens to be next door to our datacentre. As a result, both our ASGS server and our forum server will be within the "Security Perimeter" as soon as June 7th.
I don't foresee any issues with this because the datacentre is already one of the most secure buildings in all of Toronto. (Man-traps at the door, fingerprint scanners, access cards, restricted elevators, mandatory bag searches, etc.) I doubt even a single protester will end up in the lobby let alone in our server room. Even if protesters tried to do damage to something, they'd be met with hundreds/thousands of riot-geared cops shooting rubber bullets, sound cannons, and using other uncomfortable-sounding methods to stop them cold.
That said, the building is the central hub for most of Southern Ontario's telecom making it an attractive target for would-be anarchists. A few well-aimed attacks could potentially knock Internet connectivity out for the building, taking our fun little game offline in the process. If problems occur during the summit, it will be very difficult for me to get to the building...and that's even if I *WANTED* to brave all the potential riots and other stupidity that comes along with protestors.
My office has declared a closure during the event, as have many *MANY* offices and entire buildings in the downtown core.
In case people want to read up on some of the craziness expected here in T-dot, the following links may be interesting to you:
