i love it, but i hate that the video starts automatically.. it's kinda annoying

I wasn't sure if in the other thread people were saying they really like the amazingly ugly and disorganized current, red page. I am sure now that they are. How do you all not see that it is amazingly ugly and disorganized? It's almost a paradigm for what not to do with a web page.

It's simple you need to provide a BETTER front page then the current one and both of them, to date, have serious flaws. Im not sure why, since to to me them seem obvious prototype pages. Are they?

They "seem" to be presented as "THE" design. Come on they both have some serious flaws. I'm NOT @#(!ting on your work per say but if this is the finished process both are a resounding NO!

To everyone in general and no one in particular :

Are we discussing tastes here? Is this about what I, you, he, she likes? If so, please tell me so I can never bother to check this topic again because there is NO WAY on earth anyone can make a page that ALL of the hundreds of people in this community find appealing/organized/cool/better …

If you don’t like the current page you have one of the following options:

1. Make one you like yourself, perhaps the community will also like it better than the current one (that’s what SpaceJunk did btw)

2. Tell the designer exactly what it is you think it doesn’t work. Give constructive criticism and your chances of being heard will increase exponentially. You don’t know what “constructive criticism” is? Here a couple examples:
“Hey SpaceJunk, I’m really quite bothered by the auto start feature of the video, I find it pretty annoying and intrusive. I really believe that should be rethought.”
or
“Hey, there is a typo! Callsing = callsign”

Also, I know the discussion on this new front page has been going on for months and is shattered in multiple places and it’s hard to follow, but please … try.

It has already been addressed in another thread that this one is not complete. Your flaming of the front page is out of place for the moment.

I've said it in the other thread(s) already and we don't really need another thread, but I don't much like this page either. Now I'm not going to point out the obvious reasons again why this page should never have gone live yet to begin with as it has not been spell checked or the code tested. But here are the reasons I do not like this page:

1) Big ugly award logos (this can and sounds like it will be fixed)
2) I really do not like the background. I want to see a space type background. This does not look like space. It looks like a red blob. If not a space background it should be a solid color.
3) Personally I also don't think I care to see a big earth on the front page. But I'm not sure if it is that or that it just doesn't look good on top of the red blob (this red blob isn't bad as an image it just doesn't belong on a freeallegiance website)
4) The page copies Eve's page. That reason alone is more than enough to definitely NOT have this be our homepage. No it isn't an exact copy. But it is definitely looks like what happens when you copy someone's code in a school project and just change it enough to try and pass it off as something "original" The button design is pretty much the same as well as the lower boxes.
5) I don't like how the download button is highlighted like that. When I saw screenshots I was thinking that the site would highlight whichever button the mouse was hovering on top of. I don't like just having the one button looking liek that.

However the people complaining about the youtube player need to get over it. It is a lot more convenient to use the YouTube player over any other solution. There are no good alternatives and it doesn't really look bad. It just looks like a standard video player, nothing special but not ugly.

I'm not saying my concepts look great. In fact it doesn't look too good now, but it would by the time it is finished/ready to go live. I spent a LOT of time working on my designs and have continuously improved and polished them and they still have a long way to go. But we have an admin who seems to barely pay any attention to Allegiance and decides to come in and all of a sudden post one very new concept that just recently got posted (and only images at that) and is extremely rough, not spell checked, not tested, not polished.

I would rank the designs I have seen in this order:

Dorjan/new bacon
AEM's (any one of the three)
Spacejunk's original concept
Original
Fuzzy (eve copier as well)
Tie Spacejunk's new design and bacons old

PS if you hate scrolling get a monitor with higher res I can see the entire page
