^Phoenix1@AFS (Dreg Adv Sup/Starbase) vs djrbk@SysX (GT Adv Exp/Tac) (IO 1.25/1.0)
Game starts in the lobby, with me asking DJ what setts he wants. He says, "How about if I win I pick your nick for a month?" I laughed, but then realized the game could be interesting: whoever wins, picks the other's nick! So bravely I chose Dreg and he chooses GT.
I open with enh cons, ordering both sides to peek. Expansion! All U rocks! What vile treachery is this? There is no way I shall force my friends to fight in Dreg ints, with paper mache hulls that are magnetically attracted to bullets. So I make the decision to push to the corner, praying for a sup rock, and LO! The allegiance gods granted me with one of the sexiest sup rocks I've ever seen. I plant my TP there and push the op next to his home while he gets an exp in the middle. At this point I have four miners in the sector directly to the left of my home (after some early harassment,
Saisoma for saving them) and they mine out left. I also have Raish guide my tp low next to their op, which planted on the right hand choke instead.
I get us enh figs with gat2, df2, ss2, boost2, and all the GAs (I'm a big believer of Sensors and Agility GAs) as four MORE miners came in and docked. But then the mini2 ints started encroaching on my miners, and we lost one of the empty ones as two more miners drained our last sector. I decided that it would be wise to invest in some spec mines, and get two of them at our garrison while my miner offense decimates their miners, leaving them with the gleanings from their expansion and their home.
This is; however, enough to get a palisade out, which goes high. I misinform my men, telling them it plants short, but in reality it plants next to our sup, which is where I was mining. I believe that miner died as well. Afterwords we try to mine next to their home, which doesn't work (lack of safe sectors) and an uneyed bomb run kills our garr and all spec mines. This was a dark time for our team: we were consistently 4 down and DJ and I were joking that it was time for him to pick my name. At one point, Devilian said something about the stack (and there was, don't get me wrong. They had Saxy and Grav while we had Devilian and Haduken, since out top players, Zruty and Saisoma, had to go back to work) but I had been very careful to not tell my team that there was a stack developing.
Haduken@SRM wins MVP for his words that followed: "Stack is not an excuse to suck." Truer words were never spoken, and "No excuses" became our rallying cry. We mined our way to a new garrison (losing several miners in the meantime) while DJ got himself a tac, and my pilots began a probing and miner offense campaign to slow DJ's tech gain. For a while we had gat3/df3 and enh figs (we needed to D vs bomb runs), but then I got 4 specs and a new miner, mining our new garrison and earning enough money to get us into galvs. At this point, OneManBucket joined up and the teams were very even, and there was a frenetic pace as we rushed to kill all their miners before SBs while Dj's team harassed my teleport spam.
Instead, DJ got mini3 heavies, and we got figbees. Using carefully placed teleports and a strategic lack of enemy probing we bombed every single non-galvable base except the exp, totaling to the tac, the pali, and the garrison. At this point (or maybe before) Spidey joined up and I made a comment that I had enough figs in a sector, but then they killed the TP, so Spidey said something about me eating my words. To his credit, I lost two TP cons after that point, but then again a defenseless push next to his exp worked, and a defenseless push into his exp almost worked (but was foiled when we tp2ed the expansion).
With AB2, cruise boost, SS3, and all other trimmings you could imagine, I got us another miner and started getting out more specs just in case. I thought that DJ's team was going to camp like little bastards and we'd have to get our own heavies to fight our way though. In the meantime, 2 of 2 TP2 scouts easily walked into their exp and set up. Surprised, I ordered people into figbees, being wary that there might be an HTT on our sup. Fortunately (or unfortunately) DJ decides to mine next to my op at that point which draws a lot of his team away off of D, and nine figbees rip in blowing up the enemy expansion.
GG guys!
Now my question to you is: what should DJ's new name be?
