pkk wrote:QUOTE (pkk @ Nov 15 2009, 05:45 PM) Anyone else noticed that the following weapon sounds are broken?

CC, DN, Alleg+, aso:
PE Striker
EW Pulse Laser
EW A-B Stinger
PE Mini-Gun
PE Gat Gun
PE AutoCan
EW A-BS Can
EW Disruptor
EW Sniper
EW SkyRip
EW SkyRip LE

EoR:
Machine Gun/Gattling Gun
Autocannon
Flak Battery

All these sound use RepeatingFireSound in sounddef.mdl.

If you fire these weapons (more than one shoot), you will notice an ugly sound (less than a half second).

I've tested it on the following machines:
Windows 7 Professional x64 with Creative X-Fi
Windows Vista Home x64 with Realtek onboard sound

Rock said he has the same problem on XP.
I did some more testing today. I also have now better sound records, so you should notice it.

Core: CC_07
Ship used: TF scout with 2x PE Gat1
Betabuild: Latest one which was on AU (before Cort broke it)

R5/R6 Beta, all bursts are broken:

R5 retail, burst 4 and 5 work fine, while all others are broken:

I tried to look into code today, but everything I found was nonsense...

These bugs haven't been fixed yet because don't have any developers interested in fixing them up. --Tigereye

The msoriginal sound engine appears to fix several glitches (haven't tried it myself, so can't really say what glitches).

I'm not so sure it's the engine in Allegiance that's the problem. after expanding the OGG's, Windows Media Player and 15 other players can't play ANY of the sounds on my machine!
The only program that I've found that CAN play them is WavePad. Once I resave the waves into the artwork folder, Allegiance STILL can't play them, but Windows Media Player can as can the other programs!

I've tried replacing the executables you'd noted above and the ONLY sounds that do work are the ones, I've "converted" via WavePad
