How do you play the practice arena in the tutorial section of the game with your customized keyboard layout? Its rather annoying as i'm new to the game and would prefer to spend a little time in the practice arena fighting AI to get good at dog fighting before i inhibit realtime games with my inferior flight skills.
The problem being the keyboard layout reverts to the standard one in the practice arena even though i have already spent considerable time customizing a keyboard layout. is there anyway to fix this atall?
Or, even better! Is there some mod or other that lets you fight AI bots in a custom game you can set up to play alone, or even to train with your buddies. I understand how difficult it would be to make a mod involving fully implemented AI in regards to the team expansion commander style. But an AI basis of simple bots pouring through a gate in waves in a single system game, like the practice arena, but it being an option in the game options window rather than just being in the tutorial section.
food for thought.
I would still like my question answered

greenleaf is right.
On a semi-related note - there is still time to
Sign up for the CDT-I session which
starts this week. Then you get a forum where you can ask lots of questions like this, and get lots of free advice

yep.. what greenleaf said. Basically what happens is that when you enter the tutorials, it remaps your controls so that when the script says "hit f" (or whatever) the "f" is in-sync with the tutorial. When you do what greenleaf suggests, you force the program to reload your key mappings - overwriting the overwriting done by the tutorial.
edit: typo

About a week after the course starts Adam will add all late applicants . Your forum name will appear in the
news postand you will have access to the CDT subforum. If it doesn't when adam updates it you should post in that thread.

There is a training core!
Find a buddy and start a game using the core called
Tcore something.
It allows you to build drones and pit them against your opponent and vice versa. The drones are rather dumb, figs don't use missiles etc. but it's better than nothing. In principle it's designed more for command practice IIRC. If you turn on "friendly fire" in the game setup, you'll be able to kill your own drones though they won't fire back.
BTW, don't worry too much about your lack of skill... join the main game anyway. Commanders usually have enough sense to keep the number of newbies balanced and there are plenty of players at all skill levels for you to practice on...

You can always go to the main game and see if there is someone willing to help you out. If there's anyone with an @Help tag on, you should be able to talk them into assisting you
