Sound Card (Make and Model#): Unsure. It's the one that came as part of my laptop. I'm using a Creative Fatal1ty USB Headset if that helps.
Connection Type (Dialup, Cable, DSL, other): ADSL 2+ (20mbit down, 1mbit up)
Modem (Make and Model#): SpeedTouch 585
Router (Make and Model#): SpeedTouch 585
Internet Service Provider(company name): TPG

Basically, it all installed fine and everything was dandy. However, when it comes to actually joining a game, I keep getting the error message.

Another thing to note is that I only see two games on the list; Planet Main and the Newbie Server.

I suspect your anti-virus.

NOD32 AV (not SS) works and is what I use.

Thanks for filling out template, most likely cause of your troubles is your AntiVirus

If Allegiance works with it disabled then hooray however it probably won't.

What will make Allegiance work is uninstalling the antivirus and rebooting your system, then Allegaince should work. You might need a specialised removal tool in addition to uninstalling your AV (normally found on AV Website).

Only thing to check before uninstalling your antivirus is that on your router that ports 2300-2400 are not being blocked.

Oh, and also, Planet Main and the Newbie Server are usually the only games going on.
Unless u have voobs making side games of course. hehe

Well, uninstalling my antivirus isn't an option. I don't have any troubles with it in any other online games, and it has a Game Mode which completely disables anything which could interfere with internet traffic. I already tried playing Alleg with the Game Mode turned on - no dice.

What I will try is forwarding ports 2300-2400. I'll post again when I've done so.

Okay, so I forwarded the ports... no difference made. Tried disabling Universal Plug & Play, which used to make a difference... no help to the situation.

I really don't know what to do here. I am certain that BitDefender shouldn't be what's making a difference here, so what else could it be?

Trust me mate, that's what it is.. especially with Vista. Only way to play is to install another Anti-Virus I'm afraid.

Well.. installing another antivirus isn't a possibility with my system. That said, I could probably uninstall it briefly just to check whether your hypothesis is correct.

Yup you should try that, if your willing you could just uninstall AV whenever you get that urge for Alleg

Don't forget to reboot after uninstalling

Free AVs work just as well in independent tests.....

Darn and blast. It appears that you guys are right. I was really hoping it was something else, but after uninstalling BD allegiance has begun to work correctly.

The reason I don't want to use a different AV is largely because I've already paid for this one.

I suppose I could try out NOD32 for a while.
