Old cores problem

I found out, a long time ago, that all old cores won't work anymore.

zone_core, static_core, aw3 and my core are all messed up.

I'm wondering if someone has any idea why it is happening. I'd really like to be able to fix my core without starting over.

My guess would be a missing artwork file, but I don't know of any easy way to test it out beside checking if every single model in the core exist in the artwork directory(AFAIK, I actually tried that one).

I built Delta Centauri from static_core and I can run that fine. How do you mean 'messed up'? Are you referring to the 'Server has thrown an exception' message with AllSrvUI?

Something's changed in the server.... I don't know what, but I know that some builds of the server will run bsg core, while the more recent ones won't.

Yeah, that's the error I get. I'd like to know how to fix it in the core directly.

I have no idea what causes it. It'd require a lot of digging to figure it out

I've searched this and found out that any core that doesn't have dreg will crash. Deleting GT, TF or even original factions will work. But remove dreg and the core is gone.
As for why this is happening, I don't have any answear yet.

I found out what the problem was, a core will crash if no faction has an UID of 1. On all the cores with dreg, the UID of 1 is held by dreg.

It has nothing to do with he3 mines because removing dreg and copying GT(GT2 replaces dreg with the UID of 1) fixed the problem.

Does anyone know an easy way to change the UID of factions? You can't change it with ICE.

Creating a dummy faction fixed my core.

Edit: Actually, hmm, static_core already works for me, so there must some other problem I'm having.

Edit2: Hmm, interesting. I seem to have been using some rather old server files, I replaced them with these. Now BSG core and so forth work. I don't know if there are any newer versions. Does anyone know where I could find a definitive latest version of the server files, or if there's a list or directory of released versions somewhere?
