I'm a network guy, not a code guy, but I have some thoughts on what is causing this issue. I'm going to do some additional testing and use this thread to post what I find (likely to take a week or two) and I also have access to Symantec tech support to help track this down if needed.

I've done some packet captures and it seems to be related to ssdp, which is related to uPnP packets. My gut instinct is telling me this is how your home routers open ports to alleg automagically (your PC asks using ssdp and the router opens them). Business routers (like a Cisco Pix or ASA) may be immune to these problems (thus resulting in folks plugging directly into a university network without their own firewall) and cause mixed reports on what AV products work with standard installs.

Do we have anyone who understands the network code in Alleg as related to ssdp and uPnP that can comment on this? I'd like to do some additional testing, but would like some feed back from a coder prior to moving forward.

Thanks!

Sai

cooper, shut up. Don't talk again until you have something intelligent to say.

I have no clue as to coding, but I do have an idea on where you might want to start.

As posted here AVG allows connections via Hamachi, which is a virtual LAN. There might be some way to do the same type of thing with alleg as well

Howdy!

Some members of another network I belong to seemed to have been able to get some support on this from Trend.

Seemingly it's a problem with the Windows Common Firewall Driver (CFD) that a lot of AV software uses.

Microsoft have released a hotfix available here:
http://support.microsoft.com/hotfix/KBHotf...&kbln=en-us

I don't think it has been incorporated into windows update yet.

Hopefully, this may help some users out there.
