I have been playing for just over ayear now and been through the cadet. A year is good time to reflect and i am looking for feedback as to what needs improving in my gameplay.

P.S. I've not played with you in game at a time that would be worth remembering.

From your stats, your kill/eject is just awful lol. Maybe look up techniques on flying (prox, thrust, aiming etc). I wouldnt worry about commanding for now

meh... kill/ejects don't mean much... it depends on what you're doing. If you've got a nan loaded most of the game, you're not going to get many kills. The game doesn't record miner saves or number of miner loads brought in while under your care.

I can't answer your questions directly, partstone, as I probably don't see you in game much. You might want to consider taking on a particular role that you like... miner d, miner o, etc. and try to excel at that. Then you can move on to other roles.

Partstone

< Stats are for girls and them foreign types >

Read Beer's bit again my man. It's spot on and if you want to learn the art of dogfighting I KNOW just the dude for you. He's doing the RL bit atm but I can summon him from the "other" zone. Chin up dude and remember it's what you make out of it.

< Look at Serb and Snack a couple of more pathetic @#(!heads you've never met but somehow they can $#@! about enough to get a kill or two. >

In all seriousness if you want to be an uberwhore people will help you, if you want to be a scout from hell like defi, pook, noir, or one of the up and comers then someone will help you, want to be a great bomber pilot, commander, miner hunter etc people will happily and freely help you. Just define your role.

Respectfully

You should play the way I tell you to play because you asked for my advice.

Top Five Ways To Improve In Allegiance:

- Learn to dogfight effectively. Dogfighting isn't just for whoring, it's also for defending bases against galv runs, defending miners effectively, pretty much anything regarding defense that doesn't involve turrets or nanites. You can only prox so much, you can only nan so many times, but if you get offensive with your defense (by taking out the attackers) then you can single-handedly save a tele from three-five galvers. It's happened before.

EDIT: In addendum to learning to dogfight effectively, never rely on your lead reticules to judge if you're hitting your target or not. Instead, follow the trail of bullets (or lasers, energy, or what have you) to the ship itself. Think about the ship you're attacking, make sure you line yourself up with it to where all your bullets are hitting the broadest side. Never attack head on unless you're going really fast, but even then I'd recommend against it. Side thrust: not a luxury, a necessity. Always change your position, never stay still. If you do so happen to strafe right just after you strafe left, make sure you're either moving backward or up/down, to keep yourself moving. Doing these few things should more than increase your dogfighting skill tenfold.

- Learn the AI of the miners. By learning their AI, you will know where they go before they even know themselves, and if your commander doesn't order them to a specific location, I'll bet my life's savings that you'd meet a miner at the rock they'll mine next before they even dock. This is useful for two things: you know where your miners are going therefore you can take your time getting to your destination to be ready on miner d, and if you've eyed their bases then you know exactly where their miners will be headed, so long as you pay attention to the minimap and the He levels of a sector. Which brings me to the third most common way to improve yourself.

- Increase your situational awareness. In base and nothing to do? Find something to do. Miners need defense, constructors need defense, probing needs to be done, scouting needs to be done, protecting your economy while harassing theirs is how you win the game. A decent pilot will do one of the aforementioned. A better pilot will do most. A great pilot will do all of the above, plus they'll know every move the enemy does: where they've build bases, where they're mining, which sector has what techbase, and the pilot can do all of this without even stepping foot out of base. Situational awareness is what wins games next to raping economy and good teamwork. Commanders and pilots alike with poor situational awareness will not have a successful game, but pilots with great situational awareness are deadly.

- Listen to your commander. This is always overstated, but it needs to be. Many a game have I heard commanders yell for con d, yell for miner d, yell for someone to effectively probe a sector, but no one does it. If you take the time out of your deathmatch in the sector where both your op and the enemy op planted, you can probe the whole map while their team is also distracted on whoring. Six probes is all it will take in an entire sector to eye any bomb run from the moment the bomber enters an aleph. One extra person on miner d is all it takes to ensure that you get the $7.5k you need to upgrade your techbase. An extra nan on a constructor is all it takes for the con to have the vital 10 seconds it needs to align and plant, while prox kills anything that comes its way. Too many people get distracted by the flashing lights and want to do their own thing, but the commander is in the command seat for a reason, and it's best that you listen to him.

- Learn the intricate details of the game. You will never improve your skills if you don't know how to effectively hide from scouts in a stealth fighter. They teach you this in Cadet. But you will also never improve as a pilot if you do not know the limitations of the ships, of the stations, of the weaponry that is included in-game. There's no point trying to sneak an HTT in to a sector with an enemy Bios garrison because they have a scan range equivalent to a pulse probe, and since all alephs are generally less than 3k from the garrison then you'd be eyed upon entry with a sig higher than 60%. These are details you want to study so you know what limitations you have as far as ships go. You want to know how much damage mini-gun 2 does, therefore you'll know how long it takes to kill a miner. You want to know how much energy sniper1 takes, that way you won't run out of energy for cloaking when you need to run away. You want to know which vector to correctly fire a dumbfire and expect it to hit its target. Some of these skills can be readily accessed through programs generous pilots have written, but others you have to learn by experience.

Improving yourself at Allegiance is not an overnight transition. You don't go from noob to vet, hell it's hard to go from voob to vet. You have to practice. You have to learn. You must have patience. And you must be dedicated to learning the fine craft that is Allegiance.

I'll copy me that, if you don't mind. Nice write-up, thanks!
One of the worst dogfighters this game has yet seen. And still, Cadet II made even me better!

I've seen you play, and I've had a dogfight with you...learn to be a better interceptor pilot...(Basically Learn How To Dogfight as Neo said) and I think your a good team player...of course I'm not a vet just to keep that in mind...

Nice write up neo. I'll add a little myself:

- Learn to dogfight effectively. Get a decent crosshair. I use Mesial's #1, myself. Learn where to boost to get on someone's tail. Then you can kill people who aren't just in a 1v1 dogfight with you.

- Learn the AI of the miners. Also pay attention to the sound effects. Learn the difference between "I've got enemies on my scope" and "Miner detects enemy".

- Increase your situational awareness. You don't have to be in base to know what is going on - check the minimap and F6 often.

- Listen to your commander. Ignore idiots, like bbr pilots that want to bomb eyed vs hvy ints.

- Learn the intricate details of the game. Get TEK or ICE.

Usually though, "skill" is used to covertly mean "match the game exactly to my level of competence." Anyone who is at all worse than me should fail utterly (and humorously!) and anyone better is clearly too caught up in the game and their opinions shouldn't count.
