I've never understood why games still count for helo, even when there is a really bad helo imbalance (I'm trying to avoid using the S word here).
I recently learned that it was removed because it occasionally meant squad games did not count because of it.
I find that argument a bit silly. SG's happen less than once a week, so helo and the leaderboard rank isn't much effected by them. Practically all the data in the leaderboard comes from PuG's. The whole ranking system is there for the PuG's anyway, since helo imbalance doeasn't count for anything in a SG.
Bring back an imbalance threshold please, and if possible, make it retro-active.

I seem to recall it was because by some logic people with false enough rank start shooting at their own legs. With every game counting this situation would be reached faster.
Edit: stating the obvious for the umpteenth time removed

I think that if you peruse Pook's blog, you'll get the reasoning behind it.
When there was a threshold, it encouraged stacking in many instances. Folks would stack and hope/pray that they could whore away and have it still count. If it didn't count... bummer... but they still got to whore. No downside. They would even wait until the game was well in hand, then start letting newbies on in the hopes of lowering their HELO in order to meet the threshold. /rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

That's not right. The current system is no improvement, rather the opposite. They can stack and whore, and it always counts. That's not an improvement.
Maybe a really outrageous stack should give a helo penalty then? I'll go look for the explanation in Pook's blog now...

I think I have a good understanding of how ELO and points work when you win, but I've never really quite understood how it works when you lose. Anyone know of a link that could explain that to me?

I think this is a good idea.

Dont try to do more things with HELO, there is no point in trying to balance a flawed system.
Instead, implement a new one.

HELO is broken. Doing something that applies a broken system is nothing but a worthless exercise. Stop worrying about HELO and learn to whore the stackers.
