In the Battlestar Galactica core, there is the Advanced Viper Mark II and the Advanced Viper Mark VII. Neither is superior to the other (Or they're not supposed to be), but they have their differences. Could something like this be implemented? IE, two kinds of the same ship, one with more armor and weapons, the other with more speed and agility.

depends if people want it.

people may say no, keep it for novelty cores.

some people may say it is a way to balance things by say having ints that have low fuel but more hull and guns, and striped down ints with longer range etc

but it comes down to whether the majority want it.

That's kinda what I thought for ints. Have a very heavy armour add on for ints in the shield slot. You either get a dreg like int or an belt like int. Not exactly the same as you are suggesting. However scout [probe], scout [nan] etc would be nice.

It would make for more specific tasks for ships.

You mean like the Adv. Scout (greater scan range, less survivability) vs. the Hvy Scout (Greater combat capability, increased survivability, lesser scan range) in GoD?

Yes. With the way that Exp is wanted to be with two (Mostly valid for both) different views, why couldn't there be two ints, one that does each?

You could also have a missile-heavy fighter and a regular fighter, as well

Almost makes me ask if it's a good idea to branch the community core- I really think we need a community core that is updated very conservatively and incrementally with universally popular changes, but it would also be fun to have a core just to try crazy (but probably fun) @#(! like this.

A 'Beta' Community core could be useful for the more questionable changes, seeing if people like them

I think specific roles for different ships is a good idea, i would like to see this tested in some kind of beta.

Maybe somethign like a speed bomber, kind of like the stealth bomber, but without teh stealth (faster speed and ripcording) for a cheaper version of the normal bombing. (similar to a PT bomber i think, but around $250)

But unlike a Fig/Bbr, ir would still use the bomber module, just with reduced armour, not fig armour.

I made a core like this a long time ago that I doubt anyone remembers. Basically had 3 versions of every ship that had trade offs. It was fun, but for various reasons it never got any play at the time.
