Hello Alligence players,
I just wanted to make a brief howdy do and reflect on Alligence as a new player. Hello and Well Met. Since this involves game play and me as a new player I figured this to be the proper location for the thread. Although I'm new to alligence I'm not new to air or space combact sim games. The best I used to play was an online multiplayer in the late 90's called Air Warrior ( III) as a member of Grave Diggers squadron, which involved learning multi aircraft, their functions and abilities. I wish I'd found allig when EA dropped AWIII, as insofar I find it to be equally as good as. I've much enjoyed the side games with several late night pilots, and getting practice time in on the 2 newbie servers. I may never lose this newbie (0) rating (from viewing leader board and reading forums), but would really like to get in some main games, ... how else to really learn and hone game skills.. I'm soooo not an ace pilot, but I'm proving to makie a pretty tuff target, and I really like scouting/naning... I'm sensitive that commanders and many higher players see newbies as an offset so I don't just "jump in" a main game (specially if it's been running awhile) but I will ask to fly on a team as the 'last guy picked'. I'm aware of CDT and in the May 'course'. Anyway.. to those I've already played side games with.... "Heyas", and to all the others that are in it for the fun of the game...hopefully we'll get to fly some good games together.
Nuff said, now we return you to your regularly scheduled program already in progress..............
A newbie speaks
Welcome. Forget about the side games. Learn by watching and doing. The side games are nothing like what goes on in the main server.
Jump headlong into the main server but make sure you don that flak jacket first as it's a wild ride. Just stick to scouting/probing/nanning until you get yourself oriented by seeing what others do and taking CDT. Lots of us vets still sometimes forget that nanning and probing are two tasks that still win games in a big way. Don't take them lightly. You'll probably want to stay away from high profile tasks like bombing for HTT'ing as nothing draws ire more than a novice doing something they hardly understand.
I too came from alot of flight sims and other games. This is the deepest and most dynamic game I've ever played and it certainly demands alot of respect from a pilot to play it right.
Anyways, hope you enjoy your stay. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

welcome. Read the acadamy and jump on in. Get booted a few times but don't take it to heart, learn from it and don't bitch/whine and you'll be fine.
Happy hunting!
Happy hunting!
I decided to relive the days gone by in my new blog.

Leave the newbie server and 'side games' as soon as you are able to fly straight and navigate with the mini-map (about 30 mins) you will learn nothing but bad habits there.
Get on the main server, fly a lot of games. Get teamspeak. Ask questions.
For your first few weeks stick to a scout for the whole game; you won't be getting many kills but you are in the most useful ship in the game. Load a few probes, a nanite repair gun and a prox mine and keep that loadout.
Drop the probes in enemy sectors, particularly those next to your own sectors.
Use the prox mines to protect youself from people chasing you.
Read the chat, look for where the commander is requesting 'nans' then learn how to load the nanite gun, and use it to repair friendly targets under attack, particularly miners constructors and bombers.
Doing these simple things will help your team win games.

Thnx South Paw, much of that I already fully practice, your advise will be most welcome and applied, I always carry a nan first then a gat if it'll fit, I've learned the loadout and invitory mang... cycling cargo, stowing energy devices to lower sig, spreading probe nets depending on their range and targets, probing behind the alephs but proxing in and out of alephs, NOT enguaging targets that eat scouts, naning to the last second then podding back, using all 6 thrusters in variations during evasion maneuvers or targeting while controling forward mains, I fly mainly on com screen picking my waypoints off the grid but in hidden scan range of intended targets, and nothing more satisfying than luring a seasoned player into chasing me thru an aleph. Even thou I practice all this and look to learn new tacts, I'm obviously still slow at it, not always 'click click click' on inv arrangement, weak but improving my SA, I get podded everytime while df'ing 1 nme and getting picked off by his stationary wingman just in range... grrrr. and so tally ho

Welcome Shadow!
I just want to re-iterate southpaw's suggest that you hop on TeamSpeak if you can during big games - even if it is just to listn. Even better if you have a mic because you can ask questions and people are more than friendly (though some like Imago or Serb are just a little to weird.)
Hop in main games as soon as possible and have a good time!

I'm sorry I don't remember any of it. For you the day spideycw graced your squad with utter destruction was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Sunday

My apologies.
