Can we get a definitive answer to whether this will work on Vista.

I know there are betas, and there's a .Net 2.0 release. The 2.0 should in theory make it work with Vista right?

I know that you've all said it wont work, has anyone tried it yet, with the 2.0 release?

This is a great game from what I can remember, and I want to get into playing it with friends again, but I can't until I have a workstation that works with it..

Allegiance works on Vista as long as you do not apply the .net 2.0 SP1 or install the 3.x series.

So what do you do if you already have (I'm trying to get into programming, so it came with VC++) .NET installed? I can't find a way to uninstall it..

Clarify- Is there an alternative to complete Vista reinstall? There's no way on Earth that I can do that. I'm a professional web developer and I can't risk going through all the effort to validate my CS3 license all over again (hours on tech support helplines.

I'd recommend a gaming rig and a working rig. If that is impossible, do dual boot.

Hmmm, from what you've written, it seems you're not doing your web dev in ASP.NET. That means, you don't really need (most likely) the .NET 2.0 SP1 (unless any other software you're using requires it). Also, VC++ does not require .NET 2.0 (unless you meant VC#, which does). In short: you should be good to play after you follow the steps in the topic Grimm linked /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

The link in the link is for Windows XP? Do I proceed regardless?

Oh and it's VC++ '08

Yes, proceed regardless. It also works for Vista. Removing .NET 2.0 shouldn't cripple your VC++. If it does, just reinstall 2.0 and DO NOT apply the SP1.

Ok this isn't good. I'm on .NET 1.1 with the same error. (used the tool and wiped it all out, then installed 1.0 and 1.1 (had to for some reason) and installed it). It gives the same error.

BTW I don't use Asp.net much but i do use IIS7, which is a big, no, vast, improvement on the existing environments.

Appreciate your help guys...

Did you remove .NET 2.0 and/or 3.5 using the Control Panel->Programs and Functions prior to running the cleanup tool?

Yup. Did that weeks ago. All it lists in Remove Programs is 1.0 and 1.1
