I'm just asking. We all noticed that when a newbie commands, he'll almost always choose phoenix. If he has GC, the starting money will never be below RIB.
When I command, and that a newbie request a faction, it's usually phoenix.

I don't remember the last time I saw a vet command phoenix(Yes, I know it happens, but not when I play), but I see newbies with phoenix every day.

I'm not sure if it's a problem(probably not), but I'm really wondering what are the roots of this phenomenon.

I'm wondering if it could come from bad habits on the newbie server but since I'm not allowed there...
Is it because it's the easiest faction to comm(at least for a newbie)?
Do newbies appreciate the infos on the lobby and the stations voice messages?


One of the problem(I found one) is that it really hurts phoenix win ratio.

If I were to guess, I would say that although the ship models are cool and the exotic tech is sexy, it's really all about the bombers. Since no one knows how to nan anyway, and because bombers win games, the faction with the strongest bombers is OBVIOUSLY the only faction worth playing. The extra turret and assault shield 3 make Phoenix bombers near-invincible in a small games where no one knows how to use dis.

Actually I think it's because they have the coolest name. No, seriously. When I was a nubbin I liked Phoenix too because they had the coolest name.

Phoenix don't have any drawbacks that a newbie would care about (as mentioned above, no nanning piloted ships), unlike belters and no shields, rix/tf with no missiles, giga where you have to research EVERYTHING and you need to know to research boosters at the same time you research those interceptors (not newbie friendly), bios and their 10 minute research time and heavy cloaks that require some knownledge of signature, etc.

I'm not sure why they don't like IC, maybe because of the ripping miners that require constant attention.
Same with GT and dreg, but I'm guessing it's the coolness factor of Nix that really seals the deal.

To a newbie, much more exciting than a IC Hvy Int with Mini3.

Have to agree.. it might just be the coolness factor (although I am weird as I always loved Belters even from the beginning.. much cooler then Nix for me.. but that is just my twisted taste).

Phoenix is my favorite but I refuse to use it on other commanders because it's a little cheesy.

I don't command anyways. I need more experience and when I get more experience, I'll use a fair faction.
