After reading through various threads and the wiki, I have tried to change the port settings on my Speedtouch to allow the required ports through (not sure if I've done it right, NO experience in this area), I've allowed ASGS and Allegiance through the Windows Firewall (no problems connecting apart from this one) and I've removed the McAfee firewall component and rebooted to no avail. Help! I was playing Alleg (a few years back) fine on a rinky dink Win98 with an 8 meg graphics card and having a whale of a time. Flippin Vista!!

No need for the port forwarding. You should probably remove those rules to keep things simple.

Failed to connect to lobby is the actual error message you get? Then it's probably not a .Net issue. Are you getting the MoTD (Message of the Day)? It's the screen with news and should be scrolling up. If you don't get that, open up Internet Explorer and make sure "Work offline" is unchecked. (It's under the File menu, I believe.)

nah, it's not a lobby thing, I can get into the lobby and see the games that are running, it's when I select a game to join, that's when I get the 'Failed to connect to the server' message. I got message of the day fine. It's so frustrating, everything seems to work as I remembered it, except getting into the game lobby /mrgreen.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="mrgreen.gif" />

What kind of antiviral suite/firewall are you using?

As far as I know, the Windows firewall is up, I have McAfee still running for virus, but without the firewall component, and there seems to be a firewall built in to the Tiscali line/router. That's about as good as I can get as I'm not that technically up on things.

There's your problem. Disabling the McAfee FW doesn't disable it... To be able to play, uninstall McAfee suite completely, do a full reboot (power down, power up, not 'restart' option in windows).

One more thing: if you really (and I mean REALLY) feel you need constant antivirus protection, get yourself Avast, AVG or NOD32. None of those comes with a firewall and they're way less of resource hogs than McAfee or Norton.
As for firewall: you're behind a router, which has an in-built firewall, so you shouldn't really need a software one /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />
