Design Concept: Space Tank

Serves as an anti-gs/Bomber, Standard Base, and Anti-capital Heavy Armor (Not super heavy capital ship) killer.
Research: 10k
Costs: 1000
Weaponry: x1 Main Battle Cannon (Extremely high damage to Medium, and Heavy Armor Class. Takes down ints MUCH better then adv figs. BAD Damage to SUPERHEAVY Armor Class. Can do damage to light and medium base hulls. Low rate of fire, but not so low to insta-pop even a giga bomber. Range around 2.5k. Damage to anything below medium armor is not good.)
Turrets: x1 HEAVY Auto-cannon (Same Base Damage, and Range as Auto-Cannon 1. More spread, rate of fire, and ammo capacity. Heavy AC1 has same dps as Ac3.)
Missiles: None.
Deployables: None
Agility: Between GS and Bomber.
Shields: Medium Assault Shields
Armor: Heavy
Scan Range: 1k
Speed: 90
Signature: 250
Hull: 2k Base
Rip Time: 15 Seconds
Tech Path: Requires Basic Garrison, Tech Base, and Bombers.
No remaining tech bases = No more Space Tank.
Tech Upgrades:
Main Battle Cannon 2 - Increases damage, can cause damage to Major Bases (Or not, or minimal damage.) Requires ADV. Tech base to get Main Battle Cannon 2.
Heavy AC 2 and 3 - Upgrade AC level in sup.
Medium Assault Shields - As Medium Assault Shields have always worked.
Why a space tank?
To provide a counter where people are complaining there are too few in the game. Can put a good stop to GS rushes, because these baby's pop them well. Ok for base defensive, but horrible at shooting nans. Will probably require a nan, and maybe an int with it for some time. To provide a good counter to EARLY capital tech, without any late capital counter ability.
I think this could go a long way to counter some "annoying" strategies in DN, and perhaps make for some new ones itself.

Massively overpowered against bombers. Buy one of these for base defence and you should not lose another base. The enemy won't be able to stealth bomb with reg/heavy bombers or camp and bomb. With GS and bombers sharing an armour class, anything designed specifically to deal with GS will also be able to deal with bombers.

Higher ROF, less damage per hit, still good damage overall.
It has massive problems killing nans, due to the MBC's crappiness versus anything less then medium armor, and the high spread on the heavy auto-cannon.
It will still be able to kill bomber runs, but high nan bomb runs will give it problems. It certainly wouldnt be any better then say a corvette in stopping them.

I think you'd be right if it were dropped into DN. But it wont be any better then a corvette at it, as conceived. It was made for DN, although anyone can take it.

set it to minimal damage against basic ships(and utl)
set its damage against every other ship's hull to 4(?) x mini of the same level(main cannon 1 ~= 4 mini 1's) and set its damage against shields to that of an emp of the same level(note: int weapon used here because most people are familiar with it)
give it a reduced turn rate
no shields
Research:... just make it an "upgraded" corvette
In other words
Scrap your current implementation and. keep its niche in mind throughout the process
A specialized ship should only be useful in a specific situation with a skilled pilot and support from the team
Unit cost isn't "that" big of a factor when it comes to defensive ships
A counter should take longer to implement than the tactic it is designed to counter (preferably enough for the tactic to be used once, if both researches began at the same time)
Most importantly
Don't design things you would want to get every game.
Don't worry about people wanting to use it (if it fits the into its niche, people will use it when appropriate)
Do post your general idea before fleshing out any details, and take the communities input to heart
Do take each of your ideas with a grain of salt(If you realize your own biases you can put them aside)
But, thats just my opinion...
ALSO: Treat this as my "official"* "Welcome the the dev forums"(IMO core dev isn't part of the dev forums as it is too much like gameplay and general) *not actually official, but officialish
If there is anyplace where you could start to redeem yourself this is probably it
Every idea gets its share of criticism here... don't get defensive, just take anything said as advice(no matter how crude or bad it is)
I'll be giving you a cleanish slate(on the dev forums) and I hope others will join me in it
