I am cutting out everything that I dont think needs to be in the hud. Please let me know what kind of changes you would like to see.

and if you have any experience with code, submit a snippet of code to add.

I am working with the Cortui standard hud, using the colored thingauge, and removing unnecessary things.

I hope to come down to something that a vet will understand and be able to use, but lacks all the crap that the standard hud has.

Someone has already done this. Flingpu, I think.

Stupid idea #1: don't completely take off labels. Maybe leave a letter, some hint on the bar itself, but DO leave an hint on which bar is which. This is why I don't like FlingPu's one.

Stupid idea #2: take off the bars, only place numbers (big numbers though). With shadows. It should also be possible to make them blink red.

Stupid idea #3: move fuel, ammo, energy and thrust bars off the center, maybe topright. Place warnings in the center when they are running low though (with if-s) and place a numeric indicator for thrust. Bars on the center for hull and shields (maybe with shields being the borders and hull being the fill of the bar itself): yours and enemy's.

Stupid idea #4: change "Ripcording in" into "Rip in". Made some difference to me.

Stupid idea #5: change "Current location" or "Currently viewing" into "Sector". Made some difference to me.

I think FlingPu's HUD with labels would be the best.

I could do some of those text and gauge changes, but if you want them out of center try the software hud already
