i thought it only right to put a short thing in about "Newbie Squads" since we get so many people trying to form a squad within a week of joining

Code: Select all

A "Newbie Squad" is a squad a new player tries to form. These squads often fail to takeoff because they only have new players as members, and vets won't join them because they know that the squad won't survive and won't be able to compete in squad games because the squad doesn't have enough good players, so you get a chicken and egg problem. Many new players have tried to form squads, and when told that history has shown that squads formed by new players are often doomed to failure, feel offended because people seem to be shooting down their idea even though they are only offering advice.
anyone think that is ok for a start? ^^

That feels rather more like opinion than fact to me.

Are you witing some sort of jargon guide or is this a serious article in the squads section? If the latter then the whole tone is wrong IMO.

yeah, i felt the tone is wrong, but i couldn't manage to get on the right lines, hence i posted it in the discussion instead of posting it on the wiki.

i'm basically trying to write something that explains (firstly, what they are, and) that lots of new people have tried to make squads in the past, people on the forums have told them that their squads won't survive, and then the new player trying to make the squad gets all offended and starts ranting about how everyone wont give them a chance, and then start making them selves look really bad arguing back at everyone who gave them advice, and them others just insult them back, after about 8 pages an admin locks the thread stating the requirements of forming a squad, saying good luck tell me when you've met them.

basically, those threads don't help anyone, and just make the new player feel alienated and some just leave.

so i figured a short piece stating the facts that people have frequently tried to form them, most of the time they have failed, the reasons they fail and why people won't support them, and advise against forming them. (could mention successes too)

basically so if a new player reads it written factually, they might think twice about trying to form a squad, instead of making a thread, and then arguing with everyone..

Once I've finished with your squads page I'll post as it covers most of the same ground in a better way. Mostly cribbed from the existing kb pages.
