Piloted miners. No, really.

Primary weapon is .. mine.

Secondary weapon is cowardly VC messages of the teams ability to you alive.

Now, I wonder. Would that be an improvement over the AI?

No. Because would you want to spend all game pointed at a rock?

Me niether.

Why not? I keep on ramming them anyways.

Besides, what are those new high-res rocks good for anyway if you don't get to watch them up close and personal?

Well, Raveen, a year ago I would have said no.

But it turns out that thousands of players are doing that in EVE right now and claiming to have fun. We might even pull some of their playerbase!

I want that sweet lightning gun, I bet that beast will turn a bomber inside out.

So they have a weapon of sorts to break up rocks, they must also have a tractor beam or something to sweep the he3 into the cargo bay, and I could definitely use one of those.

In other news I've secretly been coveting a "smuggling drone"in conjunction with normal miners. Basically a miner with a gun (code change) so that if a scout tries to jack with it comm can just order the miner to fight back. A couple of gatts would probably work, although if you wanted to make a gun that used the lightning animation that'd be nice too. It'd be cool if they only had a fraction the he3 capacity of a regular miner (code change), while being faster and stealthier.

Still... Assault Miners are possible and would be hot in a new faction or something.

edit- ice will put guns on miners, but won't let you use them.

When I started this tread I was being a bit funny, but the thought of flying miners gnaws on me a bit all the time. I mean, when you really need to have an intelligent miner, when you're just down to one miner and it needs to survive, then you don't mind staring at the rock for a while pressing that mining button. Name it F-19 mark miner if need be, dodge and weave through the enemy probes and mine that tucked away rock at his home.

Even better would be if you could dock at the miner at will, kneecap those union @#$%@#s driving that crate, put the pedal to the metal and leave rest to a committee of inquiry afterwards.

Edit: I've heard rumours that miners had turrets in the beta for like a week before they were removed.

I think that we need miners as drones, mostly for smaller games. But having piloted ships that can mine could be interesting. It would allow the game to scale better(Large team, more miners, more money). I think that piloted miners shouldn't be as efficient as normal ones.

We'd have to add a new week to cadet; "Truck Driver week", we might also need to make sure the drivers aren't all that smart and energetic about their work, thus creating; "Teamster week". /biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />

miners are hard enough to kill (for me) as it stands. Let me kill a few first...then make the changes.

Seriously....I kind of like them dumb and vunerable. makes protecting them that much more of a skill. Interesting idea, though.
