When I join online communities
They ask for a name
a real name
do i have to lie to keep my personal info secret?

Absolutely
You should have a google or hot mail account
Have all website registery requests send to that account not you home address..
From that account you can use a bogus name to keep your real identity a secret.

just some friendly advice.

Do you wish emails going to your teacher, father, etc? Or protecting yourself?

hi, my name is madpeople

i have 4 e-mal addresses

1 for internet use involving the name madpeople
1 for friends and family - people i will meet and know in real life, this involves my real name
1 uni one - real name, used for uni stuff
1 which uses neither madpeople or my real name, i don't use this much.

now, i have signed up to some forums with my real name, but those forums were forums where i would be meeting people in real life (sport clubs forums etc).
for other forums where i will not meet the people in real life i use madpeople.

now, on forums where i am know as madpeople, i will never say my real name.
on forums where i use my real name, i will never say madpeople

right now i'm wanting to change my name on forums where i used my real name to something annonymous so i can then do things like say here, heres an awesome video of me.

also i cant realy go around linking to stuff on forums where i use madpeople from forums where i use my real name because then people will know madpeople = <real name here>. which is really annoying because i sometimes want to link people to "the noob" movie or my hotkey mods and say look at this cool stuff i did, but then the first thing they see when they paly "the noob" is "by madpeople".. "who is madpeople".. "err, i am"

LOL (for Juckto) padmeeples that made sense in your head--- which should have been your first warning.

This thread was not nearly as bad as i thought it was going to be (it's still early). Furthermore, if there were rankings for forums that could act as good role models I am fairly certain Alleg (Team Pedo, TheSerb, Goatlove, Whoring, et al...) would be pretty far down on the list...

LOL

Yeah, you should definately have an email that doesnt use your name. I have one that doesnt, and one that does. I use the unnamed one for most stuff, and the other for more personal stuff.
