Hello,

so I came by a new box, one that ASGS hasn't seen yet. Had the bright idea to come up with a new nick and make a fresh start. Re-enlist into @CDT and earn my wings, yadda yadda yadda.

But ASGS complained ''Unable to retrieve key''.

The Knowledge Base says "This keyfile must be created by the head Administrator, Pook . Private-Message him on these forums", which I did. Mind you, I left before the whole bruhaha really started, and I couldn't piece together what has happened since, but there was a recent post from Pook greeting me from the front page when I returned around christmas. So I PM'ed him... no reply.

Time passed, this months' Cadet course is probably closed for latecomers already, and I'm not so set on the hider nick thing that I'd wait another three weeks. So I spoke up and revealed myself on IRC, where I was told that a) now BV is in charge of handing out hand-crafted keyfiles, and b) that someone should better fix that Knowledge Base entry.

So much for that.

In other news, I long forgot the password to my original callsign(s). ASGS kept them for me and did it well -- why should I bother? The old box is still operational, but I know squat about if and how they can be retrieved. Is there anything that could be done about that?

EDIT:
I just realized that I'm still logged in under the hider nick. I know how to retrieve the Forum PW from Firefox, though, so this can be remedied. Callsigns in question are "schnobs" and "caligari".

Have you tried signing in with your old nick? You can join @cadet as a returning vet.

I've emailed schnobs' password to the email address on schnobs' account.

Where, depending on a number of things, they either went to data heaven or into somebody else's hands. I no longer hold this email adresses' domain name.

However, it appears that I also used Firefox to sign into the ASGS web site; the pw is different from the forum's -- does it belong to my game account? I used it with ASGS without triggering any "bad password" kind of error. I still get the "Unable to retrieve key" one, though.

EDIT: Grimm, I know. I actually re-joined Cadet shortly before my real life turned into a mess, but was given to understand that vets undergoing the course again may not participate in the test and get these nifty wings.

regards,
Schnobs

Check with Denga, but I'm pretty sure there's no problem with a re-attempt at graduating. I think the restriction of which you speak is intended primarily for previous grads who might wish a refresher course.

Yep. That's me.

I just remembered that there once was an issue with changing the email adress associated with an ASGS account -- it required divine intervention (that is, Pook's) or Bad Things would happen. Is this still the case, or may I safely update the information?

I wasn't aware that there was an issue with changing your email addy. So I guess my reply is: "I don't know".

IIRC, the issue was with changing the e-mail address on the boards. Since upgrading to IPB, I think the problem has been solved.
