Lets face it: ELO has been tinkered with as long as i can remember. Hell, even Microsoft tampered with it in the old days.
Back then you knew if a player was good just by their reputation. Nowadays everybody has 2 or more Hiders ( which make the ELO concept useless anyway. ).
In my opinion people will be much more willing to join a team that is stacked against if they dont have to fear to lose precious points.
So, in conclusion:
- Remove ELO / Leave it age based
- Allow max 1 Alternate Nick.
- Good riddance.
Thank you.
Now you may flame me.

I'm not even a fan of ELO and can see the problems with your argument.

how do hiders break elo?
EDIT: and from my, limited, experience the people who care the least about being stacked against also care the least about elo.

erm, hiders break judgement by reputation, elo is not broken by hiders.
you cant even see elo right now, so it doesn't matter

MS Allegiance used a points based on game event ranking system. Which someone working a behavioral science degree could find plenty of linkage to the lemming effect of statwhores pursuing maximum pointage. Base kills get big points, everyone wanted a bomber. Dogfighting, no one wants a bomber. @#(! sometimes savy vets would go IC get SY and repeatedily pod newbies in scouts for as long as they would let them. Team wins can you stackfest. So no MS Allegiance never used Elo.
The rest of the history Ill leave other sot fight about

MS never touched Elo.
Hiders have 0 effect on Elo. You = your hider = your 2nd hider. There is 0 difference.
If Elo has been tinkered as long as you can remember, I guess you haven't been here that long.
If you have something critical to say about Elo, say it. If you're just spouting your baseless opinion, I'm glad you got it out of your system.

Thats what i was referring too, MS changed the points algorithm several times. AFAIK your rank was based on total points back then.
Anyway, who needs a ranking system? Id even get rid of score. Individual score is not really helping teamwork. So, dump it.
As for rank: Anyone care to explain how some people seem to have (1) hiders ( besides the option of having a second PC with an unlinked account ).
May be my misconception of how Hiders are linked however.
Anyway, its stilly my opinion that rank should never be linked to ELO / Score / dogfight rating / whatever flavor of the day.
We dont need numbers. We need to play Allegiance.

while people can pick teams, people will stack, elo designed to stop stacking.
dont say it doesn't, because it isnt being used right now, so you have no examples of where it was used and failed.

Maybe mp, but ask yourself this:
WHY do ppl stack?
WHY do ppl whore around instead of doing useful things like naning etc?
WHY wont ppl give a more unexperienced comm a chance?
Because losing hurts your interests. Thats why. And that interest is ranking, ELO, Score, whatever.
Its the whole concept of having a score and rating system. It promotes stacking, doing tings that bumps your score instead of getting with the team, etc. etc.
Its like a cancer.
Imagine this for arguments sake:
Game ends, instead of normal score boards you just see total score of both teams. No permament record is kept, thus it doenst matter if you lose or win. Presto.
I dont see a reason why that would be worse than what we have now.
Come to think of it. You shouldnt be able to see who is on the teams either until you join. /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />
Aww. Forget it. You guys aren't ready for this.
