I just got this game, and I've only played through the first 3 training missions...But I can't even learn how to fly my craft, because whenever I am in the cockpit, there's no voice-over...It works just fine when I'm in the base (i.e. in the room with all the consoles), but almost all of Mission 2 and most of Mission 3 are just bewildering, because there's no voice-over... I have a Realtek AC'97 Surround card with EAX2, and in the audio settings I have it set to use hardware buffering so I can get the cool EAX effect. Now that I think of it, I'm gonna turn off hardware buffering and try again...But has anyone else had this problem?

Also, my Logitech Dual-Action doesn't seem to work in this game...The POV buttons work, the action buttons all work, but my axes don't seem to work. :( Plus I can't seem to set the axes in the keymapping portion of the settings...I've played many flight sims, and I always do better with joystick control...
Um, just in case you're wondering my axes are labeled as X, Y, Z, and Z-Rotation, where Z also is interpreted as Rudder, and Z-R as Rudder-R.

Final Word: I think the graphics are stunning, and from what I've read from the Academy pages, the gameplay is gonna be sweet, but not if I can't learn to play, and not as much if I can't use my joystick...

EDIT: Turning off Sound Card Acceleration solved the problem with my voice-overs...

My Logitech Extreme 3D Pro works fine. I figure you just need to set it properly. Don't use the app that comes with the joystick (I've heard that it can conflict with Alleg). Just map them from within the game (found under the ESC menus)

Can't help you much with the controller, but I can heartily second that "RealTek has no center channel in Allegiance" problem.

I've got the same brand on-board audio, and it's got the same bug. Anything positioned "inside" or "dead center" gets muted unless I turn off hardware acceleration.

Note that this isn't really an Allegiance bug, so far as my testing indicates. The classic game "Deus Ex" has the same bug; the audio for voiceovers is very, very quiet, even though other game audio works great.

I suspect that some EAX-related feature on the RealTek is supposed to extrapolate center channel audio by inverting the waveform of one channel or some other mixing stunt, and ends up negating the entire channel to zero. Hm, wonder if I can fiddle with some of the EAX settings to make Allegiance and other classic games place nicer...
