Not everyone has tried the beta and not everyone that has tried has posted their success/failure.
Please try it. Follow the instructions in this
sticky.
In prep for the next release I want to make sure we don't leave anyone (or as few as possible) out in the cold and not able to play at all.
Post in the beta forum if you cannot connect or have problems and we'll help you work through it.

I could connect to the lobby in an earlier release (through my NAT), but I can't anymore as of a couple weeks ago.
It would be nice if you made a dedicated & up to date installer just so people know they have everything they need and can rule out that possibility for failure.

Unfortunately such niceties take time (in reference to a new beta installer). The sticky is pretty straight forward, but it is not a 'single click and go' procedure. It would also be obsolete within a few days of creating it as we are still updating the client fairly frequently.
Also, I guess I did not say this strong enough...
IF YOU VOTED for any of the above that
DO NOT LET YOU PLAY, please post in the beta forum (
linky).
I want to KNOW specifically who cannot connect to the beta Lobby (and if they can connect using regular alleg) and specifically who is having sound problems such that they cannot play. Otherwise we won't be able to try and address the problem.

I can connect fine...but am reluctant to say anything about the sound until after another night of testing.

How taxing is it to recompile an installer every week? /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />

Excuse me if I don't feel like taking 2+ hours to download, learn, and install yet another package because a few people cannot follow a few simple steps. I've worked with InstallShield, it is a pain in the arse, this one may be easier but still. If you'd care to do so, get the files, get the reg keys, build an installer, and mail it to me or post it somewhere. I'll take it from there.
This thread is not the place for this discussion, I'd split it off to the beta forum (title: Beta needs an updated installer) if I was a mod here.

My only problem with the sound is that it appears to use the low resolution sounds that were put in the install file to make the download more 56k compliant. I really hate these sounds, the high pitched squeel of when you deaccell is really annoying, I can't even find the high resolution sound file download in the download section anymore.

Hey wow, good find. I'll get it put up asap. I guess it was missed during the forum move back in June.
As far as the sound quality goes, the devteam knows what the problem is there and is working to resolve it. The cause is a byproduct of the new soundengine...
The old soundengine would support stereo sounds ingame... it would silently merge the two channels into a mono sound and play it.
Unfortunately the new soundengine doesn't, so a converter was put in that converts all stereo sounds to mono, but from what I'm understanding in the thread, it just plays the left channel instead of merging the two channels into one.
At least - that's how I'm understanding it. I'm not a soundcode guy.
Anyways, the devs are working to get it to merge the two channels into one just like the old soundengine did behind-the-scenes so it should fix the issue.
Good ears,
