I'm looking to get into Free Allegiance. I still have my original Allegiance CD - never played the game outside of training due to a bug that prevented me from joining online games. Should I install that? Does it have things in it (training missions, etc.) that free allegiance does not? Or should I just play free allegiance?

Also, I'm using a Widescreen LCD. While I wouldn't expect Allegiance to be playable in widescreen, is it at least possible to raise the resolution? When I launched Free Allegiance it's just a tiny little window. I could play this on the older CRT computer if need be, I suppose.

In other words, no. Don't install the CD, download the setup.

The automatic update program wouldn't recognise your original version. Download and install the latest version and you'll be away laughing. As to the screen thing - no idea.

Thanks. Sorry if this was the wrong forum - I didn't see the help forum.

Yeah, looks like I might be using the old computer with the CRT - ah well.

You can play the training missions with the orig CD and that is about it.
Even if you get the OLD Free Alleginace patch from MS it still won't work.

Get the latest version from the download section and get yourself an ASGS account.
Be prepared for a little bit of a rough start but STICK WITH IT, keep a low profile the first month, and then come out swinging /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

As for widescreen, YES we added support for that, but you will have to edit your registry keys as that is the only way you can set a 'custom' resolution.

And finally Welcome /mrgreen.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="mrgreen.gif" />

I use a 20" widescreen LCD and I play at 1680x1050. It's quite possible. You have to edit the registry keys of Alleg to make it work though. Standard warning : Dont $#@! around with anything other that what I tell you, or you risk destroying your Windows install.

Start -> Run. Type in "regedit" without the quotes and press Enter. You'll be presented with the registry editor.

Navigate the tree on the left to :

My Computer -> HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft Games\Allegiance\1.0.

Edit the CombatFullScreenXSize and CombatFullScreenYSize to your display's resolution. Mine runs at 1680x1050. Do remember to set the entry mode into decimal before you enter the values.

Here's a screenshot.

That worked perfectly. Wide-screen space sims are fun! Here's hoping my LCD doesn't blur too much when I make quick turns. Thanks a bunch:)
