Hi all,
I commed a game on the 13th (didn't catch the game number else I'd paste the link) and went TF. Can't remember who was comm on the other team, but do fondly remember The Serb raping my miners. I was given some handy hints ingame (like always go enhanced miners if you're TF) and managed to get my Sup up, but then due to miner rapage, couldn't afford any further tech (to the point of no miners) at which point I resigned.
A lot of my team were fellow @Cadets and a smattering of kindly vets, and I realised that there would be some degree of stacking /doh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="doh.gif" /> , but did enjoy the 'thrill' of trying to comm in 'prime time' on the main server.
If anyone that took part in that game has any nuggets of advice or criticism (apart from Don't comm if you don't know what you're doing and Don't newb stack (which wasn't my intention)), I'd appreciate it as my ultimate ambition is to become at least a reasonable commander as it seems there is a reluctance for people to comm due to fears of stacks and abuse (I, on the other hand, am either stupid or a glutton for punishment, as my skin is quite thick, or is that I'm quite thick??? /blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":o" border="0" alt="blink.gif" /> )
Let the abuse begin!!!!
Thanks /mrgreen.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="mrgreen.gif" />

Things that will give your miners a longer life:
1. enh miners
2. miner defence
-when you get out of base to defend your miner, don't launch expecting to be able to pod the enemy befor he kills it. Launch in a nan and heal your miner, you will find that the rest of the team is more than willing to shoot people attacking your miner, but will rarely save them by doing so. The nan is the only sure fire way of saving the miner, all else you are taking a risk on pilot skill.
3. offence on the enemies miners/bases
-the enemy will have troubles attacking your miners if theirs are under attack. Sometimes you just need to send 1 or 2 people off to go harass the enemies miners and you will all of a sudden have time to mine. Same with bombing sometimes, (key word sometimes), when the enemy has to defend bases, they can't easily attack your miners. Unless there's one @#$%@# sf hunting around.
4. mine close to op/techbases/teles/carriers
-having to travel a sector to d a miner is tough
5. Send the miner to the defence. Don't send the miner away from the d, even if it's sending it to base, your miner will have such a much higher chance of living if the nan can actualy stay with the miner.
Most of the time what happens is the miner is heading towards the nan and the nan towards the miner, the nan is trying to get to the miner as fast as possible, so it will of course, overboost past it. If you keep the miner going towards the base, the nan will have to make up ground and catch the miner, all this time the enemy is shooting the miner, and will likely kill it. If you had sent the miner to the nan, it would have turned around so the nan's overboost would not have mattered as much.
My best suggestion to you is not to sit in base spamming Defend miners!, Just get out of base and do it yourself.

Thanks Shiz, that's one to remember. I must admit I thought if I said it enough times (and with the fact that you can rip to TF miners) then most of the team would pile in and defend, but now I'll know better and get out there meself /blush.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="

Commanders should never be in base when a miner dies in a sector with their base/tele/carrier, as a general rule. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Since nobody else said it, I will.
You are a newbie still. You should not be commanding during prime time.
They will continue to stack against you because you are a newbie. You should not command during prime time. Are you a good pilot yet? You are a newbie, you shouldn't be commanding in prime time.
No matter how good of a commander you are if they stack against you 9/10 time you will lose because you are in Cadet.
You should be learning to probe properly and nan and do the crap work that EVERYONE knows how to do before they command well.
That said, you won't listen. Good luck. /mrgreen.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="mrgreen.gif" />

Thanks Ozzy /mrgreen.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="mrgreen.gif" />
Did bring a chuckle and a smile. It may surprise you to learn that I won't be having 'another crack' at comming wihlst on cadet, as I wanna do my best to get to grips with the stuff I'm learning. I wouldn't say I'm a good pilot (yet), but I'm getting there (s....l....o.....w......l.....y) and know that you don't have to be a glory hound or a whore to make a difference on the team. Once I'm through cadet, I'll be trying to sneak the odd comm in here and there and see how things pan out.
But thanks for the support /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />
PS. I just jumped on a team whilst in a long lull in comms stepping forward, and although I knew I would be stacked against, and the game didn't last long (and I am not worthy (yet)) it was fun while it lasted.

RedFive.... most games I command as TF the same thing happens - I get a sup but no miners are left to buy stuff for it. So don't feel too bad. The Cadet course has a command week, when Cadets command lots of games, so maybe you can try again then /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Red,
A great way to begin ironing out com stuff is to command small 5 v 5 games on an alternate server. Recently, there haven't been too many, but usually there is one going in prime time. Now, it certainly isn't as good as commanding a "real" vet game, but you can usually have the advantage of comming a game without a gratuitous stack. On the down side, you have to be really honest with yourself, because you won't necessarily have a gaggle of enemy whores to helpfully expose your dysfunctions to you.
