Please get the beta
http://www.freeallegiance.org/forums/index...showtopic=22310

And please test.

We need to find out who is having sounds problems and who is not. There are a lot of nice changes in this next release and we'd like to get them out. The sound problem is the only remaining issue. We can back out the changes but they have improved the sound for most (while breaking it for a few) so we'd like to keep the changes if we can fix it for those few.

Also for those that have 'broken sound' also take a frame rate hit.

Sound files go in the main artwork directory, not the BETA, correct?

Correct. The beta should be sharing the same artwork folder.

mdvalley brought up a very good point that I'll repeat here:

If you are one of the few who are experiencing these "sound problems" (dropped sounds, stuttering sounds), please help us by telling us which sound model your card is using.

To find this:Launch the DirectX diagnostics utilityStart-->Runtype "dxdiag" and click OKClick the "Sound" tabIn the Device section, look for the line labelled "Type". Does it say WDM or VxD??If you have sound problems, please tell us what sound model your system is using. Visit the FAZ Beta forum and let us know!

Thanks,

--TE

I believe the new soundpack is full of a bunch of mono-sounds; though I am not sure as to the details regarding the mechanics of how it works.

Common problems so far in the beta test regarding sound have been:No 'ship' sounds: boosting, reloading, dispensor-ing, shooting some weapons.Stuttering of VCs or the woman announcer voice in game.A periodic decay of sound (starting with the above symptoms and progressing worse).No in-game sounds at all.See topic 22512. TE I like your new kitty. Best and looking forwad to next release;

Ty.

New client available version 071106. Please redownload the client via the link in the sticky in the beta forum.
(I'm not linking it here as I don't want to have to track down obsolete links later).

New client is 071206.

Sound changes REVERTED but please test, especially those that were having sound problems.
This version should use the same sound code as the current live version.

(That means for a FEW of you (as in not most people) the turret sound crash is back, sorry)
