in the old thread it was mentioned that there were ways to make the client connect without any forwarding or anything, is this code based only ( so it has to be coded into the client in the next update ) or is it a process i can do myself?

if i can't do it myself then simply forwarding the ports should allow me to connect without turning off the NAT option or just plugging directly into the modem right?

It is not possible with the current code to connect without forwarding. (Unless you are 'directly' connected to the internet.)

Under later versions of DirectX there are calls so that the Client can initiate the connection to the server. The original code doesn't support it and the developers will need to make some not minor changes to get it to work.

On normal routers, you have two options:
1) Port triggering
2) Port forwarding

When you do not have access to your router, you can connect to a network via VPN, where you get your ports forwarded (or triggered).

If you use 47624 TCP as trigger for 2300-2400 TCP/UDP, then yes.
