Welcome. The wiki is a good place to start, but nothing replaces actual flight time (but I suspect you already know this). We also have forum-based training programs (Allegiance Flight School and Cadet). I recommend you check them out once you get a bit of game time in - but soon - before you pick up any bad habits or misconceptions which makes it harder to undo. :P

If eye candy is your sort of thing, then you'll want to investigate the different hi-res textures people offer. (They aren't the default so as to keep the download light.)

With regards to a "core", yeah it's very much like a mod - it dictates which factions are available, the relative strengths/weaknesses of the tech and ships, the tech tree, etc. etc.

I was going to look around for hi-res packs and such. Where would one go to find/download these here upgrades/mods/cores?

If one was so inclined, one might contemplate visiting Mesial's Site.

Oh.. don't look for cores. Basically any cores that generally available are pushed through Auto Update. How you play a particular core: Launch your own game. You'll be asked for the core when the game is created.

First thing you want to do is set the texture sizes to maximum. Some models use 2048 texture size, and look awfully blurry on low default settings.

If you use a joystick turn on the smallest deadzone and quadratic control response while you're looking at the settings. Happy hunting

Yo!

In brief, I'm an old-school Canadian Elite/Wing Commander/Privateer/Free Space/Freelancer/Home World/IWar player. And a bunch of others I don't remember right now. LOL

Can't believe I missed this one. Actually even went so far as to download the source for this years ago and took a gander at it, but never actually built it or played it. :o

Ah well, better late than never huh? I'll hop in a game sometime today and try not to embarrass myself. I learn quickly, take criticism well (so speak your minds), and generally I try to be helpful.

So with a bit of patience on both our parts maybe I'll get the hang of this. It really does sound interesting! ;)

Welcome. We have a mumble server which I suggest you use to get familiar with the game faster. During the week there's often few people on it, but that's a catch 22 thing. Once people know others are on it, they tend to log in too. The address is mumble.alleg.net.

Hi, I've used to play this game a couple years ago... I played it quite a bit... That is, until I dropped my computer down a flight of stairs. I lost, and forgot all my email and login info. (i frequently change my passwords.) Anyway, I've started playing again recently. So, anyway, hi!

Hi my name is MrChaos

I like tinfoil, cats, and long walks on the beach with FreeBeer

One day I hope to be good enough to carry Weed's sweaty seat cushion for his Int but know I've got a long way to go.

That's it for now except for one thing I just can't seem to find on the wiki... how do you get Luxury Patrollers?
