Greetings all. I have ben wanting to try this forever. Now that my kids are all finally gone (moved away to university) I have plenty of extra time. I have been reading up and and trying to learn all I can before I go out and suck. Zombie killing and and fighting in various "battlefields" is getting old for me. I have always loved the Homeworld series (all of them, hell I still have lan parties with my neighbors and friends). This game seems to have several of the same concepts but yet still remains diffrent (plus u can dogfight as opposed to ordering you fighters to dogfight for you! I look forward to good times and and hope to make new friends.

Welcome. While we certainly encourage everyone to read up on the docs, etc. there really is no substitute for getting in the game and just flying. Check out the docs on scouting and probing. This will give you a head start on the game AND allows you to be immediately useful to your team. Once you're pretty comfortable with that, check out the sections about signature management. It's a simple yet very important concept.
Also, join up for Allegiance Flight School.

thanks I will try that on my other machine. good to know.
Welcome Jade. The game is very, very complex but it's also super rewarding when things start to click. There is scope for individual heroics of course, but teamwork is what wins games in Allegiance.ladyjade wrote:QUOTE (ladyjade @ Mar 1 2011, 07:11 PM) Greetings all. <bp|> Maybe when I grow up I can be a troll like PsycH

Well I guess I will try getting into Alliegiance for real this time.
First tried the game years ago when it was still in beta. (PC Gamer CD with the "full game" at the time)
Then made an account here back in 2004 (which was the one and only time it shows me as active and last played lol)
Now hopefully I can jump in, stick around, and get into a good old sim again. (Miss the fact that nobody is making any new Tie Fighter/X-Wing, Freespace, Desent, etc games.)
Been loving some of the newer WW2 (and soon to be played WW1 sims) but have been a long time EVE-Online player and have been getting a good hankering to actually hop into a pilots seat again.
Funny thing is how I found my way back here. Reading an ARS article about the creation of the Internet, I came across a tidbit about the Xerox Alto (One of the first computers with a mouse/gui/folder setup and on the wiki for it, the first game buy the same creator of Allegiance, "Alto Trek". (The old manual really shows how the idea was extremely similar). Following that wiki brought me to the allegiance wiki and don't you know it, I read almost all I could find about how to not be a total and complete noob.
Seeing how I do love a good RTS, team play, and flight sims, I hope I can chuck off a piece of experience for myself and become a semi well known pilot over time if Real Life doesn't get in the way of things too much.
Either way, I hope to get on probably late tonight (9PSTish) and some more throughout the weekend to get things tuned up and familiarized.
Hope to see you guys soon.

Just noticed that.. Need to research how/what/where is a "Core" lol (Sounds like a Mod... But I assume it isn't...)sfx_offender wrote:QUOTE (sfx_offender @ Mar 10 2011, 01:22 PM) FYI we have a star-wars core on this game.![]()
Look forward to pwning your ass soon, noob!
Also in overall reason, my want for a "New" Star Wars or any real space game is the fact that we have had DX 10 and now DX11 and still not a single new Space Sim on the epic scale of the original Tie Fighter, Descent Freespace, etc. The Open Freespace project has helped a bit as well as porting Tie Fighter into XWAlliances engine, but common. We have the tech finally, some of the best joystick systems the world has ever seen, and still no new sims that really bring out the eye candy and cinematic detail that it all could offer. Oh and can we almost all agree that Lucasarts has not made a good game for themselves since they got rid of Totally Games and went all console happy with Obi Wan? (Aside from Force Unleashed, their one really good RTS).
Heck even Mechwarrior, which I hear is making a comeback soon, has an awesome DX10 Crytek powered Mod that really brings the Detail, sound, and sim level quality that it has needed since MW2/3.
Back on Allegiance and in response to your jest... BRING IT ON!!!!
